1. Dometic Waeco Compressor

Meet the newest and most technologically advanced camping fridge compressors on the market. The Dometic Waeco variable speed compressor boasts unrivalled cooling power. Why do we love it? This compressor has the ability to change the speed at which it runs depending on its conditions. Most portable fridges on the market have set speeds, however the Dometic compressor can run at any speed.. 50%, 100%, 78% whatever is required!

All you have to do is set your desired temperature and the fridge will determine what speed the compressor needs to run at!

So, how does it work?

It relies on a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gas in the evaporator. This evaporation process extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit, causing the temperature to drop. The compressor then draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. From here, the absorbed heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies and flows back to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again. The result is an exceptional cooling performance, so much so that it's capable of deep-freezing items even at extreme ambient temperatures! This compressor is found in the entire Dometic CFX3 portable fridge freezer range!

Australia's current favourite camping fridge is fitted with this Dometic Waeco Compressor: The Dometic CFX3 95DZ Portable Dual Zone Fridge & Freezer 94 Litre!

2. Sawafuji Swing Motor

The Sawafuji Swing Motor is a Japanese designed motor with only one moving part. This means friction loss is very low resulting in a compressor that can run with great efficiency. A motor/ compressor with less moving parts like the Sawafuji Swing Motor means less chance of failure. The only fridge on the market that contains a Sawafuji Swing Motor is the Engel portable and upright fridge range. This is why the Engel branded fridges are known for their lengthy lifespan and durability.

3. SECOP Compressors

Previously known as Danfoss, SECOP is one of the founding fathers of modern compressor technology, going back to the 1950s. There's a lot to like about SECOP camping fridge compressors. This "universal" compressor will typically allow a fridge to get down to 55 degrees below the ambient temperature. Perfect if you're travelling around the hotter parts of Australia. They are also incredibly reliable and because they are very commonplace, they are well known by fridge repair/service agents.

Find this compressor in Evakool, Bushman, National Luna, Dobinsons, Ironman, Camec and ARB. (Dometic previously used Secop compressors before developing its own).

4. Blue-Gen Compressor:

The Blue Gen compressor is the patented compressor by myCOOLMAN. This model is manufactured in three different sizes to suit myCOOLMAN's extensive range of portable fridge freezers (their range starts at 30L right up to a huge 105L!).

These compressors are very efficient and has allowed myCOOLMAN to minimise the size and weight of the compressor - therefore increasing the cabinet space in their fridges and reducing the overall weight! Check out their compressor below:
