We interviewed Mitch and Sarah from "The Daily Express" to find out more about them, their travels and their van conversion!
Mitch and Sarah first became a My Generator customer in early 2021 – since then, they've shopped with us multiple times to purchase products for their 2016 Iveco Daily XLWB Van conversion.

“ We are both 24 and call Ocean Grove Victoria home. Mitch is a refrigeration mechanic, and I (Sarah) am a Law Clerk. We are currently converting a 2016 Iveco Daily XLWB Van, to be our tiny home on wheels.
We have never really been the type to sit still and always have some sort of little project on the go. During Covid, we decided to bite the bullet and buy an empty cargo van to covert, to travel Australia in.”
“It initially started as a pipe dream and every night we'd either be binge watching van conversion videos on YouTube, or looking for vans for sale online. After aimlessly scrolling one night, Mitch said he may have found the perfect van, but it was located in Sydney. We spontaneously bought plane tickets and next thing we knew, we were proud van owners.
We have camped for years in swags at the snow, wet tents in torrential rain and our trusty rooftop, which has been part of the fun and adventure, but this van is a level up and is the real deal. It is fully self-contained with off-grid living.
After Covid hit, we realised we couldn't take time for granted. It's cheesy, but we resonated with the saying "it's time to stop existing and start living", yep cringey, but completely true. We plan to make our travel dreams a reality and be on the road indefinitely.
We are so proud with what we have designed and created so far, with no real experience and YouTube being our best friend. To say we have built our first home (on wheels) is something pretty special to us. We hope that we can inspire others to get out of their comfort zone, take the plunge and enjoy what life, and Australia, has to offer.

“We wouldn't be able to travel without our Enerdrive Lithium batteries. With our Enerdrive batteries, we don't have to worry about constantly checking our power consumption and usage, as our lithium batteries are so effective and efficient with a total of 400AH onboard. We can confidently power our lights, fans, charging devices and all our other electronics while on the road.
We both agree that our Dometic Midi Heki Skylight has by far been our most loved purchase. Having our skylight above our bed has had so many benefits. It's been magical for star gazing at night, added sunlight during the day, another source of air flow and also provides us with easy access to our roof!
It also has so many awesome features. If we want fresh air without letting mozzies and bugs in, it has a retractable fly screen and if we want to sleep in without the sunlight shining in our eyes it has a retractable black out shade. Cannot recommend this item enough for any build!”
“We've camped in so many great spots during our years and have different reasons for why we've enjoyed each place we've been. One in particular was a free camp we came across by chance on WikiCamps called "Kikijarr Heights". This is located in Victoria in the Grampians, which is our home state.
The Grampians has an abundance of hikes, waterfalls and awesome camp sites. This one spot in particular that we stayed at was accessible by 4WD, as it was quite rocky and steep terrain. The campsite views were INCREDIBLE. We had the site to ourselves (only big enough for around 3 vehicles) in a secluded area surrounded by trees. We were close to hikes and site seeing locations like Mackenzie falls, Fish Falls, The Pinnacles and loads more. Those hidden gems you find by chance are definitely the most memorable ones.”
