Can I run an inverter from AGM or Gel batteries?

The short answer is yes. People have been running 240V inverters from AGM batteries long before lithium was around. But people have traditionally used a lot lower AC current devices when caravan and camping than they do today.

Inverters were never intended to run air conditioners, microwaves , coffee machines and the like.....that is until lithium came into the RV market.

For low current devices (under 600W) it is fine to connect an inverter to your AGM battery system. AGM batteries can put out low current for a long period of time. When you need to go near 1000W or more , then you should consider a lithium battery.

You can connect an inverter to AGM batteries but you need a lot larger size batteries than lithium (to cope with the high current).

A general rule of thumb for AGM or GEL batteries is a 1000W inverter should be coupled with 2 x 120A batteries and a 2000W inverter will need 3 x 120Ah batteries.

Conversely, some 100Ah lithium batteries (Enerdrive, Invicta) can power a 1000W inverter and some 200Ah lithium batteries (Enerdrive) will power a 2000W inverter.
What is the watt surge capasity for this inverter?

The great advantage of the power inverter is its ability to surge to power output levels well in excess of its normal continuous ratings. These levels are generally twice the normal output power for 1-2 seconds to allow for starting of larger, or inductive type loads.

What would be the current draw on battery using a 1200w hair dryer for instance

The current draw would be approximately 120A @ 12V.
Can I use this with 2x 120ah AGM batteries.? .. I hope to eventually upgrade to one 200ah Lithium, but budget prevents that at the moment.

There should be no reason why this inverter would not work with your 2 batteries.

You just need to make sure you monitor the output of the batteries so you do not draw them down too low.
Where are the these power inverters made

These inverters are made in China.
Will the 2000w pure sine run a 2000w induction cooktop? As its peak is 4000w so it is expected to hold for limited time periods

You would be on the very limit of the inverter, but it should work.

The 4000W peak is there for very brief overload periods.

So be warned, I have had 2 previous $500 inverters that have broken down after after 6 months and they were only ever used at half capacity. Very inconvenient when on holidays!

I installed the unit in my motor home and it runs our toaster or microwave as needed. I installed it on spacers in an enclosed wooden box under the bed with a 12V computer fan drawing air in from the side of the bed and another extracting air out the foot of the bed. They come on when the heavy duty 12 volt switch is activated and provide more than enough cooling.

I purchased the 2000watt unit and have found it simple and easy to use. Something to be aware of is that the USB only feature has been removed from the product, and upon opening the box there is a piece of paper explaining this feature is no longer available. Not a great loss as everyone has a thousand USB chargers, but might be nice to remove that surprise and update the sales information & user handbook.

We went with the largest inverter the 200a Enerdrive lithium battery can handle even though our current needs could have got away with the 1000 watt. This gives us capacity should we need it later.
