Product Description

Dometic RM2356: 95 ltr 3 way refrigerator: 12 volts, 240 volts and gas. A new Universal Energy Selection model: Switchable to either Manual (MES) or Automatic (AES) function.

The RM 2356 is ideal for caravans, motorhomes and campers that require a compact upright absorption fridge with a large internal capacity of 95 litres with a three cubic foot cut out. On top of the compact design, the RM 2356 is super convenient with the ability to run off three power supplies by using the new Universal Energy Selection (UES) control system.

Dometic’s superior absorption technology is completely silent allowing the traveller to sleep in peace when taking their RM 2356 on the road.

The Dometic RM2356 fridge has the same dimensions as the popular RM2350 model, but offers two main points of difference:

  • The RM2356 is a 'UES model' so it has auto energy selection, whereas the RM2350 is manual only. The UES feature means the fridge will automatically select the most suitable energy source.
  • The RM2356 has slightly more capacity, being 95 litres, whereas the RM2350 is a 90 litre fridge.

Key benefits:

  • New patented UES (Universal Energy Selection) control system
  • Switchable to either MES or AES function
  • User friendly control panel featuring LED indicator lights
  • Same cut out size as most 3 cubic foot models but 10% bigger inside
  • Universal LP Gas compatible
  • Easy changing of the door from left to right with the included hinge kit

Notes:

  • For recommendations on appropriate fitting accessories to go with the refrigerator (and advice on optimal ventilation set-up), please click on the below INSTALLATION GUIDE.

  • Absorption 3 way refrigerators need to be installed and certified by a qualified and licensed gas-fitter, as improperly or illegally installed products will void the manufacturer’s warranty, and could pose a safety risk.

  • While 3 way absorption fridges have the ability to run off 3 different power sources (12V / 240V / Gas), they are primarily designed with gas operation in mind; they provide exceptional efficiency when running on gas. However for 12 Volt operation, this is only recommended with absorption fridges when the vehicle is running, otherwise it can exhaust your 12 volt power source (battery) very quickly.

  • There is no exterior door skin. The door is silver coloured coated foam, with black plastic trim. A laminate panel or ply must be fitted to the door to match your decor (not supplied with fridge). See image below which shows an example of front of door with out laminate panel installed. Front silver flashing comes manufactured with creases as part of the door material (see image below). Therefore a laminate panel is required.

NOTE: This Dometic caravan fridge model is an updated model from a superseded Electrolux fridge model.

NOTE: This product is a gas appliance that must be installed by a qualified and licenced gas fitter to the current Australian Standard. Failure to do so will void the warranty and may pose a health and safety risk.

GREAT PRODUCT Review by
We have just replaced our 22 yr old 90ltr fridge with the Dometic 95ltr 3 way fridge it was a extremely easy to install with only minor trimming required all connections were well marked and my installer had no problems following them. Because of the covid 19 situation we have not had a chance to try it out properly but its keeping my "BEER" beautifully chilled. Cheers, Maurie Forrest

Happy so far Review by
We replaced our 20 year old 90l fridge as it struggled to keep cool and have had the new one in our van running for two weeks to test it so far so good, looking forward to a trip up north soon will see how well it works up there.

Excellent Review by
I decided to go for the more modern 95L automatic power selection model RM2356. I did the removal of the old fridge and installation of the new fridge myself. Paid a gas fitter to connect the gas line and pressure test the system. Was most impressed with the installation documentation and the door hinge kit which I had to use. Very good quality and it works a treat!! No more manual switching between gas 240 &12V.

Great fridge Review by
I replaced my old RM2300 with the RM 2356. The 2300 was a bit tired and struggled in hot weather and didn’t work on 12 volt. The 2356 fitted straight in with no changes to the fridge recess. The wiring for the AES was a bit tricky but well worth doing and I made sure the space around the fridge was really well insulated (as per instructions) The fridge works really well so far. The AES is great, especially when you stop for lunch or stay somewhere overnight (in a motel or friends house) during your trip. You don’t have to worry about changing the fridge back to 12volt, it’s automatic. The extra 5 litres of space inside the fridge doesn’t sound like much but it fits an extra 8 cans more than the 2300. Bonus!! An all round good fridge, pleased I bought it.

Could not be happier Review by
This is a lovely fridge great size the 95LT may seem small to some but due to the great design it packs a lot of room the ice box is a good size and is rated tropical as well . Nice fridge.

top quality refrigerator Review by
I found this refrigerator to be very easy to install, easy to make the new gas and electrical connections, and extremely easy to operate, the unit was a factory second, you would find it difficult to see the difference between a factory second and a factory first unit, the difference in internal size between the new and the old unit is remarkable,

Great speedy delivery and good product Review by
Happy with the product. Installation was straight forward as dimensions were the same as my old fridge. Works well.

Super-fast delivery Review by
This fridge is rated for Tropical environments ("T") unlike our old one which was only rated for sub-tropical environments ("ST"). So it works much better than our old RM2350, although we had to do some additional carpentry to seal the front edges because was about 10mm deeper than the old fridge.

Great so far Review by
Well packed...good instructions and so far works as expected. Hopefully as tropical rated unit will work better and last longer in hot climates compared to the sub tropical dometic that died.

Very Good Review by
Very easy to install, this is a replacement for one that didn't work in the NT. Haven't been back to see how it works, I am sure it will be a big improvement.

It was easy to install and had manuals on operation which are easy to understand.

Excellent Fridge Review by
Found the instructions for the install straight forward and relatively straight forward to install. Fridge does fit existing cavity but is slightly deeper than the RM 2350. Old door panel from RM2350 is too short and had to make new 3 ply door front cover. Fridge works very well and cools very quickly compared to old fridge. Have not used fridge in tropical temperatures yet but based on performance so far I am expecting it to work well.

Better than expected Review by
I found the install easy. All connections are labelled and along with the install instructions easy to understand. This unit is streets ahead of my RM2350 model. The thermostat works with all three energy sources and the controls are simple to operate. With the fridge full of water filled containers the temp dropped from 21 degrees to 8 degrees in five hours.

Quality fridge and efficiently designed Review by
Whilst I haven't yet chanced to see the efficiency in high ambient temps, the fridge holds very well in 30 deg. c at only level 2 on AC. Maybe 3 on gas. A downside is unless you have an alternator with a D PLUS terminal, you can't wire for auto function easily. Also by putting all the wiring and gas connection down below at the back (instead of at the top with earlier models), it makes for much harder initial connections. However, this also gives much more space in the fridge, and much more cooling efficiency on top. The fridge looks good, and so far I am very happy with it. For a three way fridge the efficiency of cooling is leagues ahead of earlier models.

Product Q&A

Ask Us a Question
  • How often do I need to service my Dometic RV/Caravan appliances?

Dometic recommend servicing their gas appliances on a yearly basis, even if the vehicle has not been used. Additionally, bear in mind that insects can built nests in the gas appliances which will cause the appliances to stop working. It can also cause potentially dangerous scenarios.

For other appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, to ensure the appliances to work efficiently and last longer it is recommended to clean the condenser.

  • Does the Dometic Fridge range come with all parts needed to install and operate?

Hi there, an upright Dometic 3 Way Fridge requires correct installation and ventilation to ensure optimum performance and safe operation. You can see listed on the product page under the Accessory List there are Vents and Gas Flue kits required as part of the installation. On the INSTALLATION GUIDE  document, you can see what recommended vents and gas flues go with your particular sized fridge.

For customers buying a Dometic fridge to replace their existing one, they often already have the required installation accessories (vents and flues) and may not need to add them to their fridge purchase. Thanks.

  • I am traveling to Darwin and I have heard that some 3 way fridges are better than others at performing in tropical climates with very high ambient temperatures. Which one of these models is “T” rated?

Thanks very much for the inquiry. Climate Class Ratings for 3 - Way Fridges are a hot topic (pun intended). The European Union (CEN) fridge performance standard is becoming increasingly accepted and the main rating that caravan enthusiasts look out for is the “T” rating.

Climate class ratings are as follows:

T Rating (tropical) - are designed and rated to work up to 43 degrees C

ST Rating (sub-tropical) - are designed and rated to work up to 36 degrees C

SN and N (sub normal and normal) - are designed and rated to work up to 32 degrees C.

All of the Dometic [RM] range of fridges are T - Rated, Except the RM2350, RM2355.

The RM8501, RM2355 and RM2350 are ST rated

Let us help you make your final decision with our Buyers Guide to Caravan Fridges

  • What is the main difference between UES and AES?

Universal Energy Selection (UES), can operate both in auto or manual selection mode.  Basically has both functions of Automatic Energy Selection (AES) and Manual Energy Selection (MES) in one. The user can select if they want auto or not.

AES, operates in auto selection only, does not have a manual mode apart from gas operation with the AES function turned off.

  • With regards to the Dometic Waeco Upright fridge models. Can I choose which side of the door the hinge goes on?

    Yes.

Some models require the customer to choose a hinge position prior to delivery. You will notice a Left Or Right Hand hinge option on the product page.

With all the other models you will be supplied with a hinge conversion kit. The door will come with the hinge on the right hand side as standard. You can easily change it over using the kit. Feel free to view the Installation instructions on the product page for each model.

  • Will the rm2356 fit in a Jayco Swan to replace the rm2350 without too much adjustment?

    Hi There,

The cut out measurements rwequired from the RM2350 is:

    W521 x H756 x D520 mm

The cut out measurements rwequired from the RM2356 is:

    W521 x H756 x D542 mm

    Many thanks.

  • Will my existing rm2350 door panel fit this door or do I need a larger panel?

Hi, the Dometic RM2356 and RM2350 have the same product dimensions so your panel should fit either model. Thank you :)

  • Do you require a 12v DC power supply to operate fridge on gas or 240v mains power?

Not all Dometic 3-Way Absorption Fridge models. Models such as the RM2350, RM2453, RM2553, RM4601, RUA6408X and RUA8408X are manually selected to gas and have a push button ignition which means they do not need a 12v electrical connection ie they are manual ignition. They reduce gas flame to a pilot flame when not needing to cool further/cycle off and increase flame when they do.

On the other hand all MES - Manual Energy Selection , AES - Automatic Energy Selection  & UES (Selectable AES & MES modes) all require a 12v feed to give basic function even on AC power.  One of the things this enables is the engaging of the gas supply and the ignition of the gas.

The MES/AES/UES models disengage gas supply when cycling. When cycling back on the gas supply is engaged and the ignition automatically & electronically engaged.

  • What does climate rating stand for on a fridge like this? Thanks

ST Rating (sub-tropical) - are designed and rated to work up to 36 degrees C

SN and N (sub normal and normal) - are designed and rated to work up to 32 degrees C.

Most of the Dometic [RM] range of fridges are T Rated.

The RM8501, RM2355 and RM2350 are ST Rated.

  • What are the differences between the RM2350 and the RM2356 fridge models?

The Dometic RM2356 fridge has the same dimensions as the popular RM2350 model.

In contrast, there are two differences between the two models:

    • The RM2356 is a 'UES model' so it has auto energy selection, whereas the RM2350 is manual only. The UES feature means the fridge will automatically select the most suitable energy source
    • The RM2356 has slightly more capacity, being 95 litres, whereas the RM2350 is a 90 litre fridge
