This is Cuddy™. A simple, small, smell-free composting toilet, that fits wherever you need it to go, for whenever you need to go. Perfect for campers, vans, boats and tiny homes. Cuddy™ uses a waterless, all-natural, chemical-free process to eliminate smells, and break down your waste.
Why choose Cuddy™:
- A true composting toilet
- Mounts flush against a wall
- Biggest “drop zone” in the market
- Reliable manual agitator
- Multiple venting options
- Installable or portable
Note: The 422mm height is at the centre of the lid, it bows up from the edges of the Cuddy where the height is 415mm. With the bamboo lid the height is 418mm from edge to edge.
How does it work?
Cuddy™ works by separating your 1’s and 2’s with its intuitive ‘bowl’ design. Cuddy™ then traps and breaks down solid waste through a biological decomposition process, reducing your waste’s volume and eliminating odour. This composting waste is stored in a removeable container and sealed underneath the bowl. All liquid waste is then stored in a separate, removeable, smell-proof container too.

Product Q&A
-
What are the power requirements for Cuddy?
Cuddy™ takes 12v, and we ship with the parts to be hard-wired via a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug, or you can plug it into the mains with an adapter.
If you want to move Cuddy™ around that's easy too. You can get a cig plug, merit plug adaptor or even a USB to 12V cable with a 5.5 x 2.1mm plug. Cuddy™ is very efficient—draws about 0.3 amps.
Cuddy can be left unplugged when not in use. If you store it in one place while travelling, it can go without power until needed.
For the “pee full” indicator Cuddy uses a 9v battery (not included).
-
How do I start the composting process?
Use a compost medium like hydrated coco coir, mini hemp, or wood shavings. Add enough to the solids bin to cover the bottom of the agitator arms—and off you go!
-
Where do I empty my composting toilet?
If possible, continue the composting process by burying the waste appropriately or adding it to your compost pile.
If burying, ensure it is at least 100 metres from water sources or campsites and 250mm deep.
Solids may also be placed in a biodegradable bag and disposed of in a rubbish bin, depending on regulations.
Cuddy™ makes emptying easy. Liquids can be poured into a regular toilet or onto a mature tree.
*Always follow local waste regulations and respect the environment.
-
Do composting toilets smell?
No. When used properly, composting toilets do not smell. The composted material smells earthy—like a forest floor.
When emptying the solids, there is no unpleasant odour unless someone dislikes natural earthy smells.
-
What about toilet paper?
Toilet paper takes longer to break down and can fill the solids bin faster. Ideally, keep it separate.
If you do add toilet paper, recycled single-ply breaks down quickest.
-
Is a Cuddy or a Cuddy Lite right for me?
Both Cuddy™ and Cuddy™ Lite separate solids and liquids, which is the most important factor. Choosing between them depends on your usage:
Full time use: Cuddy™ – Less frequent emptying, more pleasant, no plastic bags needed.
Regular use: Cuddy™ – Composting continues between trips, allowing months between emptying.
Irregular use: Either option – Cuddy™ for ongoing composting, or Cuddy™ Lite to avoid storing compost between trips.
Once in a blue moon: Cuddy™ Lite – Easier to clean and pack away.
Heavy group use: Cuddy™ Lite – Composting won’t begin quickly, so Lite handles fresh waste disposal better.
-
How big is Cuddy?
422mm (H) x 385mm (W) x 432mm (D)
Note: The 422mm height is at the centre of the plastic lid, it bows up from the edges of the Cuddy where the height is 415mm. With the bamboo lid the height is 418mm from edge to edge.
Our hinges allow for the seat to open flush with a wall, so you do not have to leave any gap between Cuddy™ and a wall, saving you space.
Cuddy's agitator is on the front you don't need to leave space on each side either, saving you more space!
-
What about venting Cuddy™?
You don't have to vent Cuddy™ externally. For short trips, the internal carbon filter and fan are usually enough. Many customers use this for years, and some never turn the fan on at all. Cuddy™ is designed to be portable and flexible for various installations.
If you do not vent externally (outside your van or directly out the back of Cuddy™), you may get some condensation depending on temperature, humidity, and composting stage.
The moisture is not harmful—it simply means the compost is heating up and the air outside is colder, which causes condensation.
Venting requires 12V power.
If travelling for long periods, venting is ideal. To vent externally, flip the airflow adapter under the carbon filter housing (remove 4 screws, flip, and reattach). Once vented externally, you no longer need the internal carbon filter.
Venting options:
- Directly out the back of Cuddy™ — Perfect for outdoor use.
- To the outside of your van — Use 22mm wastewater pipe and hose clamp through the floor, or use the Cuddy venting kit.
- To the inside of your van — Use the included carbon filter if you want portability or cannot drill a hole in the van.
If venting externally to Cuddy™, always use the included fly screen kit to keep insects out and ensure a tight seal.
A full venting explanation is available in the manufacturer’s instructional video.

-
How do I secure Cuddy™ in my van?
Many customers install Cuddy™ permanently in their van. It includes four reinforced screw-down points in the base for secure installation.
We recommend venting Cuddy™ when installed permanently to reduce moisture and speed up the composting process.
-
Can I put food scraps in my composting toilet?
No. Food scraps can attract flies and other insects, so we do not recommend putting them in your composting toilet.
-
Can I put the compost in my garden?
Not until it has fully finished composting, which takes several months. While composting toilets reduce the volume of waste, the material needs more time to break down bacteria and parasites.
