What advancements have Dometic made with the new 7 Series Plus unit?

The new 7 Series Plus has a larger colling capacity, an in built air purifier, and improved efficiency meaning longer run time on batteries and generators. The unit has managed to remain the same weight as the previous Harrier Plus unit.
Will this replace my existing Air Con?

The Dometic Freshjet range utilises either a 360x360mm or 400x400mm cut out size, which will cover most existing Air Conditioners.
Would I need to use an air purifier in the van when this is installed?

No, the Dometic Freshjet range is the first of its kind to offer a inbuilt air purifier. This is called the ClearAir system, which will keep the van smelling fresh and clean while greatly reducing allergens, viruses, bacteria and pollutants.
Does the Freshjet have a WIFI or Bluetooth feature?

The Freshjet range offers WIFI and Bluetooth, meaning you will be able to operate your AC from your phone.
Does this AC come pre-gassed?

The Freshjet range will come pre-gassed ready for install. This latest range of Dometic AC's are using a more sustainable R32 refrigerant.

Will this air-conditioner work off a 2000w generator?

Hi there - yes, this new air-conditioner model uses an inverter compressor which significantly reduces startup power demands. Therefore, one of its most appealing features is that it will comfortably start and run on a 2000-watt inverter generator.

Most other air-conditioner models will require more than 2000 watts to start up.
How often do I need to service my Dometic RV/Caravan appliances?

Dometic recommend servicing their gas appliances on a yearly basis, even if the vehicle has not been used. Additionally, bear in mind that insects can built nests in the gas appliances which will cause the appliances to stop working. It can also cause potentially dangerous scenarios.

For other appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners, to ensure the appliances to work efficiently and last longer it is recommended to clean the condenser.
With air conditioner ratings, why are some specifications for the same model different between suppliers and information sources relating to things like cooling capacity?

Hi, good question. With ratings such as cooling capacity, two different numbers can both be correct – they can just relate to different requirements and conditions.

Often cooling capacity figures displayed for the product are from the electrical rating conditions. The other main method of testing ratings of air conditioners is to ISO5151 standard – this method is under standardised controlled conditions and allows more direct comparison between models.
What is the difference between "reverse cycle" caravan air conditioners and "heating element" caravan air conditioners?

Hi, great question. These descriptions relate to how the heating/cooling works in air conditioners. ‘Heat Exchange’ units use heat exchange to cool and an electrical heat element to warm. It’s not the most efficient heating method, but it works no matter how cold it is outside.

Reverse cycle units are the more common type and they use a compressor whether heating or cooling. This is more efficient method but for some models can be an issue when there’s ice in the outside air.

There are more Reverse Cycle models available and it is the most popular type of RV air conditioner – customers that opt for Heating Element style air conditioners typically plan to spend long periods in cold temperatures.
Our caravan has a thicker roof approx 100+ mill and apparently there is a kit to suit, can you supply and what price please?

Yes there is a Dometic Extension Duct (listed as an additional accessory) which a llows fitment of the FreshJet A/C unit to RV's with a roof panel thickness greater than 68mm (up to around 108mm). The Kit includes duct sections, and longer bolts as can be ordered in addition to the main A/C unit.
Looking at a roof top caravan air conditioner - What are the noise ratings (dBA)? And which is the quietest?
Unfortunately caravan air conditioner manufacturers don’t provide dBA ratings with their unit specifications, which is a pity because it is a hot topic among caravan enthusiasts.

All of the models we stock are premium brands and we have had no feedback from customers that the noise of their caravan air conditioner model purchased from us is too loud, or keeping them awake/disturbing them during the air con operation.

Referring to specific models, a couple of the more popular caravan air conditioner options are:
- The FreshJet 7 has a variable speed inverter compressor, making its operation very quiet for its size (its designed for vehicles up 7.5 metres in length).
- The Dometic Aircommand Ibis MK3 model (designed for vehicles up to 6.5 metres in length) has improved its high speed fan operation from previous models, also making it a very quiet roof top caravan air conditioner.
- The latest release from Dometic; The Dometic Aircommand MK4 model (designed for vehicles up to 7 metres in length) features a new-generation compressor with inverter technology which ensures that vibration is minimised, creating a more pleasant environment. In addition to this, the quiet environment that the Ibis 3 achieved has been replicated. Both of these features make it one of the quiestest air conditioners in the market.

Hi Don, no the FreshJet 7 has oscillating outlet vents on the front and back only. The sides have vents for air intake. Many thanks.

These air conditioners require mains power to operate.

The only way you could have the unit running when the vehicle was in operation would be if you had a large enough 12V to 240V inverter.
i am replacing a dometic B3300 with a FreshJet 7 should this be ok

It should be fine. The Freshjet 7 can either go into a 360 x 360mm or 400 x 400mm opening. So just double your roof opening beforehand.
I am replacing an Aircommand Wren. Will the Freshjet 7 without roof midifications

The Freshjet 7 can fit a 360 x 360mm or 400 x 400 mm roof opening so you would most likely need to do a slight modification as the Wren is 356 x 356mm according to the user manual.

How can I best optimise the performance of my roof-top air conditioner?
Hi there,

Here are some tips to best optimise the performance of your roof top air conditioner:
- Clean the filters of the air distribution box regularly.
- If your caravan has been sitting in direct sunlight for a long period of time, use the 'ventilation' mode with the windows open for a while before switching to the 'cooling' mode.
- Avoid opening doors and windows as much as possible when the air conditioner is running.
- Regularly remove leaves and dirt from the ventilation grilles of the roof top air conditioner. Make sure you do not damage the grilles in the process.

The Dometic FreshJet 7 Series Plus has two condensation water drainage channels (one on either side).

These channels allow condensation to flow on to the roof of the caravan to be evaporated.

You should not require any modifications to fit the FreshJet Plus in place of the IBIS 3. They both fit in the same openings as one another.
Hi I was looking at purchasing a Freshjet 7 Series Air Conditioner and was wondering why they look the same?

Hi, Yes, they do look the same as they have the same ADB, which is marked as FreshJet 7 Lite. The design of the ADB is in line with the IBIS4. However, the air conditioners themselves are very different, even though they have the same ADB.
We have a 1979 Bedford bus-motorhome. We plan to travel around Aust, and we have a 2kva generator. What Aircon do you recommend? Bus is 10 metres long. Cheers

Hi I saw there was a new Harrier Plus Air Conditioner. What is the difference between the old Harrier and the new Freshjet 7 models?
Thanks for your question. There are several upgrades including:
- A weight reduction of 45kg to 44kg (1kg reduction)
- The compressor in the new model is a New Generation Variable Speed compressor in comparison to a variable speed compressor. This reduces the vibration of the unit and increases the efficiency
- The nominal compressor capacity has decreased from 3675W to 3600W
- The rated cooling capacity has decreased, and heating capacity have increased in the new model
- The start-up current has increased in the new model from less than 6.5A to less than 6.9A
- An additional fan speed has been added to the new model featuring a Turbo Speed for faster cooldown

The old A/C worked but was noisy and shuddered when starting and cycling. This new Harrier Plus is inverter so starts silently and ramps up to a quiet hum when on full. On sleep mode it is super quiet which is great in a motorhome because everything is closeby. Great integrated room lights too.

It was used over the weekend at the river in temperatures down to minus 1. It performed so well that we were hot and had to turn it down. For the most part it didn’t drag much load on our 3000w Briggs and Stratton generator.Local Jayco removed the old and installed the new for $240, which I thought was good value. I’m very happy with our purchase.

Excellent air-conditioner, quite in operation and very effective. I upgraded to this unit from another brand, and this is by far superior both in noise (very little) and the volume of cold air it pumps out is excellent. The remote control is easy to operate, and the light function makes a perfect night light and isn't too bright for the kids. Current wise, the compressor starts slowly and runs at a speed that matches the temperature you have selected. The initial current draw is low which is great. A friend of mine had a Honda Inverter Generator and wanted to test it - It was a 2000 watt generator and the air conditioner ran perfectly on it without drawing too much initial current. Having said that, I was really impressed with his small Honda Generator EU20i and now I want one too!

First the installation, i have never installed one before and taking my time it was quite simple and would be a task any handyman could accomplish. Second how it functioned, works extremely well,the remote is simple and we love the built in lights as it saved us heaps in our fit out.heat and cools our Toyota coaster extremely well with a quiet noise level.We love how its a 3.5 kw system with a soft start so we have the benefit of a large system that will run off a small 2 kw genset,no more carting a massive genset around,big bonus.money well spent.

Purchased two of these to be fitted into a custom built trailer (9m long). The units operate fairly quietly and with great efficiency. I was expecting the units to be quieter than what they actually are, however the performance outweighs this! Nice clean interior unit as well. We have had to get a drain made up for the units as a lot of condensation was pooling on the roof as well. Something to watch out for when installing.

I purchased the Dometic Harier inverter air con to replace the 2.2 Heron split system that was in my motor home Wss expecting it to be as good and maybe a little bit better but it has outdone all of my expectations . In the last two weeks we have had constant heat of up in the mid to late 40s and this unit has been a life saver and has made the days and nights bearable for anyone thinking to go with a roof top unit you can’t go past this bad boy and it was easy as to fit.

Had read reports of the Harrier being a bit noisy but when we started it up and put it on high we found it to be quieter than our previous Heron 3 wall mount AC. With the fan set to auto it gets down to your required temp and the fan slows to it's low setting and is very easy to listen to. We fitted it ourselves and found it quite easy. Just make sure not to dislodge the rubber mounts on the base and make sure you get the transition duct fitted so it's air tight.

I have used Dometic Harrier for a full 4 weeks. Great product, low noise outside, constant hum inside unit which keeps all outside noise to a minimum, which is great for sleeping. Cools 6 meter van down in 3 or 4 minutes. Have run it on a Yamaha 2kva generator which runs it perfect. Great product.

We have found the noise level considerably better than previous dometic 2000 a/c model which still had the same problems as the one on our caravan which we bought back in 2000. This new harrier works well on our Honda 20eu generator. The only thing I am concerned with is the remote is not very good as you have to press the buttons a number of times to activate the controls. Maybe the control is not as good as it can be.

Nosier than the air command Ibis 3 Review by Phil Power

I went for the Harrier because of the inverter technology, but when i compare it to the Ibis 3 in a nearby van the Harrier is 7db noisier at 1 metre from head unit.Also the inverter compressor makes a noise like a distant telecommuter as the compressor ramps up and down. The noise level is not unbearable but disappointing when compared to the Ibis 3. When the unit was first installed the outside fan was a bit noisy on low speed but has settled down. The performance of the Harrier from a cooling perspective is good but hopefully for future models they adopt the internal fan design of the ibis and do a bit of work on damping the compressor noise.

Cools down the van quite quick compared to our old unit when it was working. The inverter unit is very quiet as well all good.

Fitted easily. Am travelling north west to Katherine NT, the temps around 39-42 deg. The nights hot. Have run my dometic on my 2kw yamaha inv generator as I pull up in rest areas. Last night plugged in at Cammoweal park...It will blast the hot air out of the caravan in minutes. Its quiet and actually lulls you to sleep on the sleep function and cold IS cold on the settings! Can barely hear it on the roof outside, sometimes walk around to get a better "listen"to confirm its working. Its been on a hell ride on the Burnett hwy, the Capricorn and floodways on Landsborough mostly east of Longreach. I truly expected it to have parted company with my 20 foot paramount caravan. But I'm laying here in a comfy 24 degrees with about 30deg outside at 4.30 am writing a review which is a pleasure to do. A couple of grand WELL spent. A life saver actually. My staffy suffering from heat exhaustion cant wait to get in c-van when we stop to camp the night to recover. I'm happy. My dometic inverter rooftop aircon has made travelling much more pleasant.
