Product Q&A

Ask Us a Question
  • Hi there, I have noticed the specifications and design of the Houghton air conditioner range are similar to the Aircommand range, are these essentially the same air conditioners?

    Hi John,

Thanks for your question. The Houghton Belaire range is considered the equivalent of the Aircommand range, please see the table below:

SKU  Name     Equivalent to     SKU Name
    HB2400  Houghton Belaire HB2400    -    SPARROW-ADB-KIT   Dometic Aircommand Sparrow
    HB3400  Houghton Belaire HB3400 - IBIS3-ADB-KIT   Dometic Aircommand Ibis MK3
    HB3500 Houghton Belaire HB3500 - CORMORANT-ADB-KIT   Dometic Aircommand Cormorant Mk 2

  • How can I best optimise the performance of my roof-top air conditioner?

    Hi there,

Here are some tips to best optimise the performance of your roof top air conditioner:

    • Clean the filters of the air distribution box regularly.
    • If your caravan has been sitting in direct sunlight for a long period of time, use the 'ventilation' mode with the windows open for a while before switching to the 'cooling' mode.
    • Avoid opening doors and windows as much as possible when the air conditioner is running.
    • Regularly remove leaves and dirt from the ventilation grilles of the roof top air conditioner. Make sure you do not damage the grilles in the process.

    Thanks for your question.

  • What generator does the hb9000 need to start up and run

    Hi There,

The smallest generator we would recommend is the Briggs & Stratton P2200i which has a max output of 2200W.

An alternate option will be the Cromtech CTG2500i which operates at a max output of 2400W.

  • Is the compressor inverter controlled to reduce the starting current?

    Hi There,

Unfortunately the Houghton range of air conditioners do not have inverter control.

Currently only Dometic offer this feature with their Ibis MK4, Harrier Lite, and Harrier Plus models.

  • Can you set the heat or cool for the fan to go off with a compressor? If so how ? Or does the fan just run continually.

    Hi There,

Unfortunately there is no option for the fan to turn off when the compressor cycles sorry.

  • Wondering if you know what the startup current is on this aircon?

    Hi There,

Unforutnately the manufacturer does not provide this specification.

However, we do know that a 2400W generator will operate this unit.

  • Are your products available in the US?

    Hi There,

We do not currently ship internationally sorry.

  • Why the difference in price between this brand and the Dometic?

The Dometic have a 3 year warranty, whereas the Houghton only have 2. The Dometic also have the option of an inverter air conditioner, which is a newer design.
