    Product Review

This is an amazing bit of equipment. It is portable and although on the heavy side very easy to move around. It starts first time every time and has got a huge amount of power to run almost anything. We are using it in our motorhome and being portable if we need it for anything else we simply unhitch it from its secured spot and wheel it to where it is needed. One of the best things we have purchased for sure.

    Shopping Experience

The guys at My Generator were superb. They went through all the details of what I was expecting to run in the MH, what battery storage setup I had and then what size generator I may need. I opted for the larger size to have the extra power if needed. They had it all sorted and shipped to me within days. Could not fault their service in any way. Will certainly recommend them to anyone wanting their products.

    Product Review

We love the Yamaha 6300w Inverter Generator. It is super quiet, low on fuel in the economy mode and starts first time, every time. Prior to purchasing the generator, we were not able to operate all of our equipment at once without causing the power to short. As a food van, we need to operate multiple pieces of equipment at the same time. Our only 'not to do' advice - do not chain the generator to the frame of the van to stop thieves if where you are chaining it is near a tyre. It turns out, the generator blows a lot of heat, excessive heat on the tyre causes tyres to swell and explode. Exploding tyres are very loud, customers run, vans shake and emergency services are all over the venue in a flash. On a positive note, the chain stopped the generator from flying through the air and the only damage is a little crack in the plastic frame. The best thing, once we stopped shaking with fright, we were able to start the generator again first go and it ran like a charm.

    Shopping Experience

Shopping with my generator was a breeze. We needed the genertor within two days of ordering. They were able to get it to the closed transport station the next day so we had it a day early. From start to finish, the experience and customer service was exceptional including helping us to calculate the generator size we needed to run our equipment.

FEATURES BENEFITS
Long continuous operation and reduced noise emissions. The EF6300iSE is powered by a 4-stoke 357cc OHV petrol engine, and is fitted with a large capacity muer for quieter operation and Economy Control to allow the engine to run efficiently at variable rpm/load. These features allow the EF6300iSE to operate at 58dBA (@ ¼ load) / 65dBA (@ full load), making it one of the quietest generators in its class, while the high-output engine and large capacity fuel tank (17L) achieve long continuous operation of 12.6hr (@ ¼ load) / 4.7hr (@ full load).
High output in a light weight, compact body. Abundant use of resin parts (e.g. exterior panel, muer cover, etc.) and removal of the recoil starter allow the generator to be light and compact, while at the same time being able to output enough electricity to allow simultaneous use of an air conditioner and a microwave, which provides great utility in the leisure scene.
Portable and easy to service. Twin lifting bars are installed at the top and bottom on both sides of the body for easy unloading. The large four-wheeled caster (with locking function) enhances the portability of the generator, while the twin bars and casters act as a buer against impact. The exterior panels have been designed with one detachable panel on each side for better accessibility when servicing.
Many user-friendly functions. The new electronic auto-choke allows the engine to be started more reliably in varying temperature conditions (i.e. re-starts or idling in colder environments) and enables an optional wireless remote control to be used (approximately 20m in clear view of the generator). Conveniently located on one side panel for improved usability, the Control Panel features a LED Power Meter (displays power usage), a Fuel Gauge (displays fuel level) and a Digital Hour Meter (displays total running time).
High quality electricity. The EF6300iSE supplies high quality “sine wave” electricity, known as Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) control, which is characterized by stable voltage and frequency. This allows the EF6300iSE to be used as a power source for micro-computer controlled equipment including air conditioners, microwaves, refrigerators and other appliances with built-in computer functions.
Designed for your protection. As with other Yamaha inverter generators, electric breakers (with overload warning lamp) are fitted in the system to protect the EF6300iSE, and mechanical breakers are fitted to protect the receptacles.
Environmentally friendly design. The EF6300iSE complies with strict emission standards and is 94% recyclable.

Ask a Question

  • Q:I was recommended this generator provide power for my mobile catering business. Is this the best suited model in your range?
    A:

Hi Nick - yes, this is the most popular generator for mobile food catering, food/coffee vans and the like. One of the main reasons is that it is one of the largest portable inverter generators on the market and often for these sorts of businesses, you will need quite a bit of power to run appliances like coffee makers/grinders, deep fryers, fridges, commercial blenders etc.

This model produces a maximum of 6300w and a continuous output of 5500w. Yamaha generators come backed with a 4 year domestic and 1 year commercial warranty - with over 200 service agents around the country.

Some smaller mobile food businesses can get away with smaller units (say 2000 to 3500 watts), however I would suggest you find out how much all your appliances are going to draw and ensure you get the right sized generator: you can get this information from the product manuals, use a wattage meter or an electrician can all test your appliances.

You may find our Generator Buyers Guide useful - this takes you through a step by step guide to sizing the righ generator for your power requirements. This  article may also be of interest: Best Generators For Food Vans Revealed

    Cheers!

  • Q:Can you get a Parallel lead for this generator to connect two together for more total output?
    A:

Hi Ben, no you can't with this model. In the Yamaha range, only the EF2000iS and EF2400iS have parallell capabilities.

If you require more than 6300watts at peak and are still after cleaner power for your application, then I suggest you look at larger models within our AVR and Auto-Start ranges.

    Cheers, Steve.

  • Q:I'm looking for a generator for my coffee van. I need the quietest one possible. What are the models open to me? Is this a good option?
    A:

Hi David, this is the largest inverter generator in our range and is very popular for coffee vans, food trucks and other mobile catering requirements. It produces 5500 watts continuous and a max output of 6300 watts running at a noise level of around 58 decibels, which is very quiet for its size (for reference, normal conversation levels are around 60 decibels).

Because coffee machines and coffee grinders etc. can draw quite a bit of power at start up, you need to find out the maxmum draw of all your appliances. It is recommend you use a wattage meter to measure the exact draw of all your appliances to ensure your generator will produce enough power.

Some coffee vans/carts can get away with smaller generators, but this is rare; most will require a generator that can produce around 5500 watts continuously to run all its appliances and in some cases customers will even convert certain appliances over to gas.

  • Q:Hello, I would like to buy the yamaha 6300w generator, what are payment options? What are the accessories and what warranty do I get?
    A:

Hi there - Payment Options are: Visa, MasterCard, Direct Debit, PayPal, POLi. You can select from these options at the checkout.

The optional accessory for this unit is the remote start key - this is listed under the accessories list on the product page.

The generator comes with a 4 year domestic warranty and 12 month commercial warranty.

    Thanks!

  • Q:I am curious to know how others go with transporting this generator if you are using for your coffee van. Does it fit in your van, or do you transport it in a vehicle? Does anyone use a device to help them with lifting, maneuvering etc.?
    A:

Hi - there are a number of ways to accommodate this generator when using it for your coffee van/truck/cart. Some are able to store it inside the van; ideally this set up requires a van with sliding doors on both sides of the vehicle to be completely open to provide full ventilation so the generator gets fresh air in order to run properly. This dual ventilation is also extremely important for the carbon monoxide that the generator emits. The wheels on the generator have a locking function which secures the unit inside so it doesn’t roll around.

The other option of course is to operate the generator away from the van/truck/cart and run leads to your equipment. In terms of maneuvering, typically we find customers will require a two person lift to lower the generator out of the coffee van/truck/cart to the ground and then the wheels make it easy to move around. We have also spoken to customers who use a ramp or board to roll their generator out of the van/truck/cart to the ground if they don’t want to pick it up to lower it down. Lastly, there are others who have a separate ute or truck to carry equipment and leave the generator in the back of that vehicle and again run leads from the generator to your equipment to run your primary coffee van/truck/cart.

    Thanks, Steve.

  • Q:Hi, I am looking for a generator for backup home use. How do I go about choosing one? Ideally it should be able to run fans, lights, kettle, stove top, TV, fridge/freezer, computers/chargers and some more items (not sure if all this is realistic?)
    A:

Hi - this Yamaha EF6300iS is often purchased as a backup generator for home and small business use; its very quiet, delivers clean power suitable for sensitive electronics, produces quite a lot of power (6300 watts at peak) and provides a long run time. You can either run your home appliances directly off the generator or appoint an electrician to fit a transfer switch that connects the generator to your home electrical switchboard to power your home when there is a mains blackout.

The main thing to find out is how much power (in watts) all of your appliances draw. Once you know how much power you need, you can choose the right sized generator. In your case, given you are intending to run quite a few home appliances, it may be best to get an electrician to take meter reading on your home whilst all of these appliances are running - this reading will give you the power amount (in watts) your home requires. As an approx. guide, a standard home will require a generator that can produce around 5,000 to 10,000 watts to power the whole house (depending on the type of appliances and how many of them). Thanks!

  • Q:Hi am thinking of buying a new generator but can't decide which one the 6300 Yamaha or the Honda eu70is can you help me? What about price? thank you, Mick
    A:
Hi Mick - In the inverter generator range, we are a Yamaha dealer and stock the Yamaha EF6300iSE - the Honda equivalent is quite similar; they both come with 4 year warranties and are backed by national service support networks. The finer differences that we note are that the Yamaha is 27kgs lighter, but the Honda has a slightly higher peak wattage capacity. The rated output of both generators are the same at 5500 watts continuous running capacity.

Prices for both units tend to fluctuate depending on exchange rate movement and stock availability. Often the Yamaha is slightly cheaper - currently (as at Jan 2016) it is around $200-$300 cheaper, depending on the dealer.

We find the Yamaha EF6300iSE is very popular for mobile businesses (including food trucks and coffee vans), backup power, events and for remote local government/council applications.

    Thanks!

  • Q:I am a bit confused as to the difference between Inverter models and AVR models. I need one that is friendly with computers and around 6-8 kva, just as a back up only.
    A:

An inverter generator will provide the cleanest power, whereas an AVR will just reduce voltage fluctuations. In your case, if running computers is the main focus, I would recommend an inverter generator. The two models around the size you require are:

Dunlite 7kVA Kohler Powered Inverter Generator - this new unit represents good value at $3,599, however note that it is an 'open frame' style, so is a bit louder than other inverter models.

Yamaha 6300w Inverter Generator - this unit is very quiet as it comes enclosed in soundproofing material. Priced at $5,599, however for the month of September, Yamaha is offering a $500 cash back special, so you will only pay $5,099.

As mentioned, based on your stated requirement, an inverter generator would be most appropriate – you can run all of your sensitive equipment directly from an inverter generator. However, if you would like to consider an AVR unit that is wired up to your house by an electrician that includes surge protection and the like, then that could also be a solution and we'd be happy to discuss AVR options with you – you can browse a comprehensive AVR range HERE

  • Q:I will be using the 6300w generator to run a coffee van and plan to build a compartment inside the van. The sound proofed compartment will have a air intake, exhaust outlet and a extractor fan. Have you heard of this kind of internal set up before?
    A:

Hi David - this is a good question, and an important one. Yes, some food van/truck operators do set up their generator inside the vehicle. But it is extremely important that the set up allows for more than sufficient air intake and for the fumes to be emitted safely.

Firstly, the generator engine requires fresh air intake in order for the generator run properly. Failure to do so may void warranty.

Secondly, because the generator emits carbon dioxide fumes, these MUST be emitted safely to the outside open air. Failure to do this can result in very serious safety risks. Restricting fumes from emitting properly can also risk voiding warranty of the generator.

So overall, you can incorporate a setup of your generator inside your mobile food vehicle, but having fresh air intake and allowing safe fume emission is paramount. Remember that for generators like this, the unit is already enclosed to a degree - it has sound proofing noise reduction material enclosing the unit...so you need to be careful when placing it in another custom-built compartment that you will not damage the generator or cause any harm from operation. It could be worth consulting a professional food fan / electrical installer about the proposed generator compartment inside your vehicle that you have in mind.

  • Q:Whereabouts are the Yamaha service agents located? Thank you.
    A:

Hi Martin, Yamaha has over 200 accredited service agents around the country. The following website link has the full list and you can type in your postcode to find the nearest service agent to you: http://generatoryamaha.com.au/store/locator.asp

  • Q:Do you guys have some general tips for generator maintenance? Ta
    A:

    Hi there - good question, yes we do! Firstly as a safety note, always stop the engine and let the generator cool down before starting any maintenance work. The five main general tips are;

    1. Replace engine oil
    2. Check spark plug, replace if necessary
    3. Check fuel level and ensure it is fresh fuel (fuel left for a long time can go "off")
    4. Check air filter, replace if necessary
    5. Clean muffler cover and check spark arrestor

You can also check out this helpful video on generator maintenance tips.

For further maintenance help, you should take your generator to a small engine specialist or an accredited generator service technician.

  • Q:Is the warranty on this product a factory warranty from Yamaha?
    A:

Yes, you get the full manufacturer’s warranty from Yamaha Australia which would be covered by any local Yamaha service center that works on generators.

You can find a Yamaha local service agent by clicking HERE

  • Q:Is there a way to shut off the petrol supply so I can run the carburetor dry?
    A:

Yes, all the Yamaha generators have a fuel valve shutoff (petcock) allowing you to switch off the fuel whilst the generator is operating so the remaining fuel in the carburetor runs dry.

This feature is especially popular if you intend to store your generator in a car, as the petrol fumes ill not permeate through the vehicle thanks to the shutoff valve.

  • Q:I plan to leave the generator outside my long term camp setup, what’s your best inverter generator that can handle all weather conditions, especially heavy rain?
    A:

Hi there, sounds like a nice set up! The short answer is that electricity and water don’t mix. Whilst we are aware that some people run their inverter gensets in all weather conditions, it is not recommended as safe or best practice for your equipment, as inverter generators do not come with weatherproof outlets as standard.

Ideally, you would somehow shelter your generator from the rain. But just remember that fully enclosing your generator whilst its running is not an option - generators need fresh air intake for the engine to run and they emit carbon dioxide, so they should never be contained. Overall, some rain protection but also room for fresh air intake and fume emission is what you need.

  • Q:What is an "inverter" generator?
    A:

Hi Alison, and thanks for your question. An inverter is a lightweight microprocessor that converts power from direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). They are a fairly recent advancement in technology from the older style conventional generators. What it means is that the inverter generators produce very clean power which is required to run sensitive electronic equipment such as laptops, mobile phones, camera equipment etc.

The other benefits of inverter generators are that they are typically much smaller and lighter than standard open frame style generators and tend to operate at very low noise levels (less than 60 decibels). Lastly, they are also very efficient; their engine speed automatically adjusts in accordance with the required load, maximising fuel efficiency.

Overall, they are an extremely popular portable power source for camping, caravanning, DIY tasks, small business uses and home power back up. Inverter generators range from around 800 watts up to 6300 watts.

  • Q:Hi there, I'm considering a Yamaha, but have noticed several other 'generic' generator brands for around a third of the price and offer similar specs. What's driving the price difference?
    A:

Great question Craig, thank you! Some lesser known brands have their place, really only for people who will use their generator infrequently - in which case you can save some money. Then there are also many cheap brands out there that are a good chance to break down on your first starting attempt!

With Yamaha, firstly - their specs are superior; not only are they the quietest and lightest inverter generators in the market, they are also built to handle more intensive, frequent operation. So with a Yamaha, you know it is going to handle your power demands easily and you can use your unit for multiple applications if required; recreation, home power backup, small business, events etc. It is the premium inverter generator brand in the market.

Secondly, with a Yamaha you get a 4 year warranty (which is much longer than the cheap brands) and you get the support of over 200 accredited service agents around the country. Our experience is that the Yamaha after sales support, servicing and parts support is excellent. You dont get a national service network with the cheap brands.

Hope that help explains the price difference, cheers, Steve!

  • Q:Hi Guys, can i run a automatic transfer switch form a Yamaha 6300w generator? Using for domestic house for power backup or can you recommend a better one? Dave
    A:

Hi Dave, with this Yamaha EF6300iSE, you can get a manual transfer switch fitted which can be connected to your house mains for power backup (fitted by an electrician). This generator is often used for that exact purpose.

But it is not a Two-Wire Auto-Start Generator which will automatically start to restore power to your home in the event of a blackout. For this type of generator, you can look at our Auto-Start range here, which are designed for automatic starting and have an additional compatible accessory called an Automatic Mains Failure Panel (AMF) or a Two-Wire Auto-Start Controller (designed for solar backup), enabling the automatic restoration of power to your home when mains power fails.

  • Q:How frequently do I have to change the motor oil? Product info says to change it after the first 20hrs, and after this first change?
    A:

Hi, after the first oil change, the recommended oil change time frame is every 6 months or 100 hours of use. Thanks.

  • Q:I am buying a Yamaha Inverter Generator from you. If I plan to not run it for a period of 4-5 months, so should I just use a fuel stabilizer?
    A:

Yes, a good fuel stabiliser will keep your fuel fresh during periods when you are not using your generator and in your case this should be fine.

    Other good practice recommendations are:

    • Drain the excess fuel in the carburetor after use. All Yamaha generators have a fuel shut off valve (petcock) that you can switch off while the generator is running to use the residual fuel and ensure it does not sit in the carburetor
    • Start up your generator every few months for a short period to lubricate internal parts of the unit and even apply a small load to the generator ensure everything is in working order for when you need it next.
  • Q:Hi, I am looking at the Yamaha 6300w inverter for my new food trailer. Would it be suitable to mount this to the drawbar in a 'cage' with a roof over it? Would this allow for sufficient ventilation?
    A:

The Yamaha EF6300iSE Inverter Generator is certainly our most popular model for food trailers. In relation to storage: just be aware that any generator needs fresh air into the engine to operate properly and sufficient area for exhaust emission. Enclosing the generator can be dangerous and void warranty, so just be sure any housing contraption allows for full fresh air intake and for proper, safe exhaust emission. Many thanks.

  • Q:I’m interested in the Yamaha EF6300iSE, but I need a 20 Amp sized outlet for my appliances - this generator only comes with 15 Amp outlets. What can I do?
    A:

Hi Matt, this is a common question and requirement. It is an easy task for a qualified electrician to reconfigure the standard outlets (3 x 15 Amp) on this generator to a 20 Amp outlet to suit your appliances. Thanks.

  • Q:My product manual for my inverter generator mentions an 'earthing wire / earthing stake' - do I need this?
    A:

Hi there, good question. This is mentioned in generator manuals and is a safety feature that will earth the generator. You do have the option to fit an 'earth wire'. Connecting an earth wire and stake is an option available to customer's that purchase a generator.

An earth wire and stake is not supplied with generators that we sell and is application specific. In practice, we do not see customer's do this, especially for inverter generators. It can be something that is implemented for more specialized generators on mining work sites for example...for common applications, it is not common practice to 'earth' the generator with a wire and stake. If you are in doubt, and you have a specialized generator requirement that may need 'earthing', please consult an electrician. Hope that helps.

  • Q:Is this generator suitable to power a restaurant on a commercial boat?
    A:

Hi, the Yamaha EF6300ISE is a very popular inverter generator for operating mobile coffee carts, food vans or especially large recreational vehicles. Some customers do use this model of generator for houseboat requirements for example.

However, please note it is air cooled (not water cooled), designed for shorter term power requirements.

It's not marinised. Many boating requirements need marinised equipment.

We'd recommend you consult an electrician to advise of the power requirements of the restaurant. This generator produces a max output of 6300 watts. You may need more power, depending on the total power draw of the appliances and equipment in your restaurant.

  • Q:I am told by my electrician that to wire this into my home - the generator must not have a "centre tap" - Can you advise if this has or hasn't ?
    A:

Hi, these portable generators don’t have a centre tap.

    Many thanks.

  • Q:I have an EF6300ISE that I bought from you last June. Can I use an E10 petrol, e.g. Caltex 94, or only unleaded 91?
    A:

    Hi Mike,

We would recomend the use of standard or premium unleaded fuel.

The use of E10 would not be recommended for the generator.

  • Q:I'm considering this generator for home backup. How much is it to get an electrician to fit a transfer switch to my home so this generator can power (part) of my house during a blackout?
    A:

Hi Anthony, great question. You've certainly identified a popular generator model for home backup power. In terms of cost for an electrician to install a transfer switch to your home, the short answer is; it depends. Not every home install is identical in terms of works required, switch configurations etc.

However, to give you an idea, click HERE for a video from a My Generator customer who had a local electrician install a transfer switch to enable the power supply to their house to be transferred to a portable generator when there is a mains blackout. You can see from the video that the transfer switch install cost was around $600. We would suggest this is a pretty good price, and perhaps indicative of a straightforward install job. We have heard of higher install costs than this for other jobs, usually requiring more configuration works.

My advice would be to get a quote from your local electrician. They can also help advise what size generator best fits your particular home backup requirements. Many thanks!
