An awesome mid priced Generator Review by
Recently purchased the MaxWatt 4500W inverter generator as a good backup power supply for my caravan when operating off grid and as a backup to my house due to the ever increasing lengthy power outages due to extreme weather events occurring more frequently. This Generator arrived promptly within 2 days of purchase date and straight out of the box started easily. When i connected it to several loads in the house I was surprised how many items it ran seamlessly with the fridge/ freezer, a kettle ,toaster, hairdryer and lights all running at the same time without any load shedding. Because it is so good I have now got my electrician to wire a Transfer switch into the meter box so in the event of a power outage I can simply wheel the unit next to the meter box and connect a short 16amp rated power lead between the unit and box and simply select the lights and power points I want to use at any one time by way off the circuit breakers and monitoring the generator output. This by far is the most efficient way of connection with minimal loss as a backup power supply. When connected to the caravan I could run everything as if I was connected to the mains supply.

Great home backup generator handles water pump sta Review by
Bought this to cover power outages which seem to be happening more frequently. Living out of town on tank water, I needed to run a Davey water pump (XJ70P) to supply water to the house. Main issue is to have enough capacity to cope with starting the pump motor which was a 1.15kw. Starting current can be 3-4 times running. On initial testing this generator handled to pump startup no problem. I was then able to add other smaller loads like a fridge and freezer on the second 15A outlet. Easy to pull start and electric start works good too. No fiddling with choke. Supplied with Lithium ion battery Nice and quiet.

Product Q&A

Ask Us a Question
  • What is the difference between the AVR and inverter MaxWatt generators?

    1. Inverter generators produce pure sine wave electricity, making them a safer option for smaller electronics, such as mobile phone, and laptop chargers.

    2. Conventional generators are able to produce more power, and are cheaper. The inverter models also are lighter and easier to carry around. The MaxWatt inverter generators are also quieter than the AVR generators, which can be good for home backup, as well as some businesses.

  • What warranty does the MaxWatt generator come with?

All MaxWatt generators come with a 2 year warranty or 500 running hours whichever comes first.

However, if you are using it commercially, it is 300 running hours or 2 years.

  • How do I maintain the life of my generator?

    Firstly, as a safety note, always stop the engine and let the generator cool down before starting any maintenance work. The five main general tips are;

    1. Replace engine oil
    2. Check spark plug, replace if necessary
    3. Check fuel level and ensure it is fresh fuel (fuel left for a long time can go "off")
    4. Check air filter, replace if necessary
    5. Clean muffler cover and check spark arrestor

For further maintenance help, you should take your generator to a small engine specialist or an accredited generator service technician.

  • Will this generator fit my slide out tray?

    Good question!

All the MaxWatt Generators are similar in size to the other leading generators in the market. This means that it shouldn’t be an issue to fit a MaxWatt into your caravan storage space.

However, we do recommend measuring the space and checking the dimensions of the specific model prior to purchase.

  • Can this generator run my air conditioner?

    Great question!

When buying a generator to run anything in your caravan or motorhome, it is important that you first know what air conditioner you are using.

You will need to know the specifications of the air conditioner to ensure you know the running power and starting power requirements. When you know the specifications of the air conditioner, you're able to check if the generator is strong enough to use. MaxWatt has created a great table to compare their models - please click here to find it

  • If something goes wrong, are these generators able to be repaired quickly and are there service centres around Australia?

Hi - Yes from our experience Maxwatt are very good to deal with after sales in terms of repairs and parts.

  • What is an "inverter" generator?

Hi Alison, and thanks for your question. An inverter is a lightweight microprocessor that converts power from direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC). They are a fairly recent advancement in technology from the older style conventional generators. What it means is that the inverter generators produce very clean power which is required to run sensitive electronic equipment such as laptops, mobile phones, camera equipment etc.

The other benefits of inverter generators are that they are typically much smaller and lighter than standard open frame style generators and tend to operate at very low noise levels (less than 60 decibels). Lastly, they are also very efficient; their engine speed automatically adjusts in accordance with the required load, maximising fuel efficiency.

Overall, they are an extremely popular portable power source for camping, caravanning, DIY tasks, small business uses and home power back up. Inverter generators range from around 1000 watts up to 7000 watts.

  • Are these generators hard to move?

The larger models have wheels and handles, while the smaller units have a lifting handle, for ease of moving. This ensures that no matter what size you get, the MaxWatt generators are easy to maneuver.

  • What fuel do I use with this generator?

The MaxWatt generators are all suitable for a standard grade unleaded fuel, including regular, premium and ultra premium. There is no need to add any oil to the fuel, as they are fuel efficient.

  • How do you connect the MaxWatt generators in parallel?

The MaxWatt Inverter Generators all come standard with a parallel cable, while other brands have this as optional accessory. This makes it easy to parallel connect with other MaxWatt Inverter Generators.

For installation, please see the generator manual or consult the team at MyGenerator.

  • Can this unit be run in parallel with a 2000 watt Yamaha inverter generator?

Unfortunately not, only the same Maxwatt models can be connected is paralell.

  • Are MaxWatt generators reliable?

Yep, they sure are! MaxWatt are a family owned and operated business that was established in Brisbane in 2017. These units are a budget, but reliable option for an inverter generator. Compared to other models in the same price range, the MaxWatt come with a 2 years manufacturer warranty.

  • Are the MaxWatt generators built to Australian standards?

Yes, these generators are manufactured specifically for the Australian market, and are therefore compliant. They are all 4-stroke petrol engines with overhead valves that comply with Australian standards.
