What size alternator is required to run this DC-DC?
180A + alternator to use at the Max 100A charging capability.

Why does the EN3DC100 require a 180A+ alternator?
Because the Enerdrive 12V 100A charger draws massive current to deliver its full 100A output. A smaller alternator would continuously run at 100% capacity, causing it to overheat and fail prematurely, while also leaving no power left to run the vehicle's own electronics.
If you have a smaller alternator in your vehicle the EN3DC100 can be dialed down in 10A increments to safely match a lower output factory alternator. Always check your vehicles and the chargers manual prior to using.

Does having a 180A alternator mean the charger will provide 100A continually?
No, the alternator provides the capacity to support the charger but then depending on battery fullness, vehicle electrical loads, engine idles speeds, and heat, the actual output will automatically drop below 100A.
