• Hi there, I have noticed the specifications and design of the Houghton air conditioner range are similar to the Aircommand range, are these essentially the same air conditioners?

• hi, can you tell me what startup wattage is required for the Houghton 3500 belair reverse cycle please

  Hi There,

  According to the manual for the HB3500 the max input in Watts is 1500W.

  Generally we would recommend a 2200W-2400W ineverter generator to power this unit to be on the safe side if there is a surge higher than 1500W.

• How can I best optimise the performance of my roof-top air conditioner?

  Hi there,

  Here are some tips to best optimise the performance of your roof top air conditioner:

  • Clean the filters of the air distribution box regularly.
  • If your caravan has been sitting in direct sunlight for a long period of time, use the 'ventilation' mode with the windows open for a while before switching to the 'cooling' mode.
  • Avoid opening doors and windows as much as possible when the air conditioner is running.
  • Regularly remove leaves and dirt from the ventilation grilles of the roof top air conditioner. Make sure you do not damage the grilles in the process.

• Does the Houghton Belair 3500 have an inverter driven compressor

  Hi There,

  The Houghton Belair 3500 is not an inverter air conditioner. The inverter models we sell are: Dometic Ibis 4, Domeitc Harrier Plus, and the Dometic Harrier Lite.

• Can you please tell me the start up draw. I am speaking to a generator company and they say the startup draw is 2x - 3x of that power for the first 5-10 seconds and tell me I need at least 8kW to power this AC?

  HI There,

  Unfortunately we do not have that specification as the manufacturer does not provide it, however based on our experience we would recommend a minimum generator size of 2400W to run the air conditioner only.

• Hi, can I install a roof top air conditioner to a jayco swan? Is it possible to DIY or will it always need a professional fitting? I'm in WA so where would I get that done if needs be.

  Hi There,

  We have heard of folks installing air conditioners on Jayco Swan's however you would need to be mindful of the weight.

  They can be installed by yourself, however the 240V connection needs to be completed by an electrician. We would generally recommend a professional to do the install as they can complete everything and will have to warrant the install.
  
  We do not have a national list of installers, but you can search for caravan repairers in your area.

• would like to know if a Redback 2.2 kva generator will run the HB3400 airconditioner

  Hi There,

  You would need to confirm that with the generator manufacturer sorry. We do not have experience with their generators.

  You would really need to discuss this with an installer.

  We only sell these air conditioners to be used the way they come and are not familiar with their capabilities at being adapted in other ways sorry.

  Based on our experiece the Yamaha EF2400iS should have no issues running the Houghton HB3500.

• Why the difference in price between this brand and the Dometic?

  The Dometic have a 3 year warranty, whereas the Houghton only have 2. The Dometic also have the option of an inverter air conditioner, which is a newer design.
