Purchased this as duel zone, placed a 4-litre ice-cream container with water in both sections and set it to -18 and froze both. Has duel lids so you don't lose any temp out of the other section. Very happy with the fridge and was delivered quickly and great service from the company would recommend them.

    Product Review

I owned an el-cheapo car fridge which I had bought online and whilst it worked well in my air conditioned car, it couldn't handle the hot confines in the camper's compartment. The camper's manufacturer advised buying a Waco,so I bit the bullet and bought the CFX75. I have still yet to put it to the ultimate test of a week on Fraser and a trip to the Cape later this year, but it certainly seems to be able to handle the heat in the camper's fridge compartment. YAY, cold beers! The instructions to remove the lids so as to reverse the hinges, leaves a bit to be desired, but overall, I am very happy with the fridge and it's cover.

My Generator, were great with the price and the package of fridge, cover and small cooler package. Also the after sales service when the cover was delayed was good as they returned my phone call to let me know what was happening. The Customer service is excellent, keep it up guys.

Product Faqs

Ask a Question

  • Q:Looking at a Dual Zone fridge-freezer for my camper. How much power draw difference (on 12 Volt) is there between the Dometic CFX 75 and CFX 95 Litre models?
    A:

Hi Brett, there are many variables which can influence how much power your camping fridge draws, however below I have outlined a 'typical' dual zone fridge freezer operation on 12 volt to help you see the difference between the two models:

Assuming an ambient Temp of 32°C, and running one side as a fridge (+5°C) and one side as a freezer (-15°C) :

    - Dometic CFX75DZW:  2.9 Amps/Hr

    Dometic CFX95DZW:  3.6 Amps/Hr

If you were to run both compartments as just a fridge (approx. +5°C), then your power draw would be less;  around 1 Amp/Hr for the CFX75 and around 1.25 Amp/Hr for the CFX95. Obviously if you were running both compartments as a freezer, then the power draw would be greater.

Hope this helps - again please note that average power consumption data depends on things such as ambient temp, compressor speed (fridge setting), temp of contents in fridge, how often lids are opened etc.

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Is there enough voltage from your cigarette socket?
    A:

If your fridge does not run properly or stops and starts erractically there is a good chance low voltage is the problem.  The fridge is designed to shut down and save your battery if the voltage gets too low.  The problem can be the wiring to the vehicle socket or even a dirty socket.

  • Q:What type of compressor do Dometic fridges use?
    A:

Most Dometic fridges feature the "Dometic Waeco Compressor" - it is the newest and most technologyically advanced camping fridge compressor on the market.

The Dometic Waeco Compressor boasts unrivalled cooling power. So, how does it work? It relies on a refrigerant that changes from liquid to gas in the evaporator. This evaporation process extracts heat from the interior of the cooling unit, causing the temperature to drop. The compressor then draws in the refrigerant, compresses it and passes it on to the condenser. From here, the absorbed heat is released into the atmosphere. The refrigerant liquefies and flows back to the evaporator, where the cycle begins again. The result is an exceptional cooling performance, so much so that it’s capable of deep-freezing items even at extreme ambient temperatures!

To find out more information on the Dometic Waeco Compressor and to compare other fridge compressors, check out our blog post here: https://bit.ly/2OIro2V

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Try the fridge on 240 V AC mains power
    A:

If it works normally on 240 v mains power, then the problem is almost certainly with your vehicle wiring, not the fridge.

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Does the fridge shudder once every minute or so, or stop running with your ignition in the accessories position with the car engine stopped? Does the red light or power light flash once every 5 seconds?
    A:

If the answer is yes to any of these points there is almost certainly nothing wrong with your fridge.  You have a voltage loss problem in your vehicle wiring or cigarette lighter socket.

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Is the high/low battery cut out switch in the high position?
    A:

If yes, this will cause your fridge to turn off almost as soon as the car ignition is switched off.  Recommended settings are as follows:

    • LOW - for vehicles with dual battery systems
    • MED - for normal single battery in-vehicle operation
    • HIGH - for fridge shut down soon after ignition turned off
  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Have you cut or extended the cable supplied?
    A:

Unless you do this correctly you will prevent your fridge from getting enough voltage to operate correctly.  The cable provided is the minimum thickness required for that length.

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - My portable fridge is not performing properly and/or running too long
    A:

Are all ventilation slots unobstructed?  Good refrigeration must have good airflow - especially in hot ambient temperatures.

  • Q:** Dometic Troubleshooting Tip ** - Voltage loss - there is a simple & permanent solution
    A:

If you have any of the voltage loss symptoms described, you simply need to install thicker wiring from your battery to your lighter socket.  Your fridge and all other 12 volt appliances will operate as they are meant to, reliably, efficiently and trouble free.  Dometic has a wiring kit available for this purpose or you can ask any auto electrician to replace your cigarette lighter wiring.  Ask for 6mm cross section wires as a minimum.

  • Q:My CFX Fridge is connected to a power source but will not turn on. What could be the issue?
    A:

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for your question.

The most common cause of CFX fridges not turning on is usually due to not holding the on/off button down for long enough.

Please make sure you are pressing down on the on/off button for at least four seconds.

    Regards, Steve.

  • Q:My Dometic fridge works while the car is running but will not run from my 2nd battery once the car has been turned off. What is causing this problem?
    A:

    Hi Jesse,

From the information you have provided it sounds as though the fridge battery protection is set to HIGH or there is an issue in the 12V supply from the battery to the fridge.

Please ensure you have checked the settings and the 12V connections and the charge status of the battery.

If you are still encountering issues give one of our product experts a call on 1300 400 122 or give your local Dometic Service Agent a call.

    Thanks.

  • Q:Can I run my portable fridge freezer directly from a solar panel/blanket?
    A:

    Hi there,

Unfortunately no, a battery must always be used to provide a continuous power supply. You must plug the portable fridge/freezer into the battery and then plug the battery into the solar panel/blanket.

The solar panel/blanket on its own is unable to provide stable and constatnt power to your portable fridge/freezer, which is required to mantain your pre-set temperature.

    Thanks for your question.

  • Q:How do I reverse the lid opening direction of my CFX lid?
    A:

    Hi there,

For CFX50 - CFX95DZW models, you can change the lid opening direction by following the below steps:

    1. Open and remove the lid(s).
    2. Remove the screws on each side of the hinge and remove the hinges.
    3. Remove the plastic covers from the new hinge positions with a small screwdriver and re-fit to the old hinge positions.
    4. For CFX75DZW and CFX95DZW which have dual lids, you will need to remove the scovers and screws from the centre hinge.
    5. Re-fit the hinges in new positions.
    6. Refit the lid.

    Hope that helps.

  • Q:Why do I have to ensure my portable fridge freezer is setup in a well ventilated location?
    A:

    Hi there,

When a portable fridge/freezer is not properly ventilated, the unit can overheat and result in high power consumption leading to poor performance and efficiency.

It's also recommended to regularly clean the air inlet and outlet vents so that it is free from dust to prevent blockages.

    Thanks for your question.

  • Q:Can I charge the Dometic PLB40 Lithium Battery and run a Dometic CFX fridge freezer at the same time?
    A:

    Hi there,

Yes - the PLB40 lithium battery has been designed to be able to charge and power a CFX portable fridge freezer at the same time.

    Regards, Steve.

  • Q:If I used this in a campervan enclosure, how much space does it require around it? Thank you.
    A:

Hi Clare, we would recommend a buffering around the perimeter of the fridge of at least 100mm when storing inside an enclosure. Many portable fridge manufacturer's will actually recommend up to around 200mm of buffering gap specifically around the fridge's vents for optimal performance.

    Many thanks.

  • Q:Hi, I want to use my 90amp hour camping battery to run a portable fridge. How many hours will I get from my battery before needing to recharge? And what solar panels should I use to charge the battery?
    A:

Hi Greg, great question. It is good that you will use the solar panel to charge the battery, as opposed to running the fridge directly from the solar panel, as voltage will drop if clouds come overhead for instance. You can run the fridge direct from your solar panels if you wish, but using the battery means your refrigerator keeps running even if the voltage output of the solar panel drops severely due to cloud cover.

Presumably your 90amp hour battery is an AGM / GEL / Lead Acid type, meaning they have an approximate 'Depth of Discharge' of around 50% - so you can only use around half the capacity of the battery before you need to recharge. For Lithium batteries, you can get down to around 20% of capacity (sometimes more), however lithium batteries are more expensive. So, your battery model has around 45 hours capacity before you need to recharge. A portable camping fridge of say around 40-50 litres in size will draw approximately 0.75 amps/hr*. Meaning you will get approximately 60 hours of total run time from your battery before needing to re-charge, assuming you are running just your fridge and nothing else. Obviously different brands and models have different power draw ratings and a larger portable fridge will draw more power than a smaller model - best to check each fridge model's specifications for precise power draw data.

Now looking at solar panels and the fact you may also want some other small camping appliances as well as the fridge:  A good rule of thumb to prevent inadequacies with power supply is to have a solar panel large enough to provide enough daily power to run your appliances, and have battery storage of an extra 2/3 on hand. So, if your portable fridge plus some other small camping appliances consume a total of say 30 amp-hours per day, you should have battery storage of 90 amp-hours capacity (like your battery does) and a solar panel of at least 80-100 watts or greater capacity to ensure you won't have problems. It is advised to go a little higher in specification than your needs, however. A popular solar panel size to charge your batteries to run camping fridges is around 100 to 160 watts… a quality 160 watt portable solar panel should give you around 60 amps per day of charging, assuming around 7 hours of decent sunlight.

So based on the above, a 160 watt sized panel could be a good option for your sized battery - this should give you enough daily power to comfortably run a standard sized portable fridge and some other small appliances if required. Thanks.

*Note that average power consumption data depends on things such as ambient temp, compressor speed (fridge setting), temp of contents in fridge, etc. So treat this numbers as approximation to give you a 'thereabouts' guide.

  • Q:What Are the Main Differences Between the Old CFX Models and The New CFX3 Range?
    A:

    The main differences are:

The CFX3 range introduces a new rugged design including an XOS frame for protection, aluminium handles and Al alloy hinges, making most of the range lighter than their counterparts.

These models also have a new high-resolution colour display panel with soft touch controls and faster USB charging, are Bluetooth enabled and feature powerful VMSO3 compressor cooling technology, which optimises performance vs energy consumption.

The CFX355IM model also features an icemaker which is an industry first!
