Customer Reviews

A quality piece of equipment, well finished and good feature set. Review by Mark Presling , Tinbeerwah Queensland

Product Review

My Subaru generator is intended to be used as a standby/emergency power supply in the event of storms and blackouts. I have had an electrician wire it into the house mains supply via a changeover switch. Since it might only be used once or twice a year I wanted a machine that would be reliable and start first time after long periods of storage. I did price cheaper, no name brands of generator of similar power output but decided that it would be worth paying extra to have some piece of mind that the machine would start when needed. The generator arrived quickly and in good condition. After filling with oil and petrol it started first time. It runs smoothly and relatively quietly which is important since it is situated under the house. Just waiting for a blackout now to give it a solid workout.

Shopping Experience

I shopped around for this product and could not find a better price. I also checked out which retail stores might stock the generator but decided against going that way since all the stockists were at least a 40 minute drive from where I live. In my experience, after driving a long way to look at a product, the retailer will tell you that they don't have one in stock but they can get it in for you. That means another long drive some random time later which is really annoying. I prefer to shop online so I was happy with the experience I had with My Generator.

Ask a Question

  • Q:Hi, would this Generator be capable of operating a Rated power plasma cutter of 4.7 KVA? And would the generator be damaged if running an appliance with higher rated power? Thankyou

Hi there - this generator produces a maximum output of 4.4kVA, therefore if your cutter requires 4.7kVA then the generator would not produce enough power. You also mention 'rated' power - if 4.4kVA is the rated amount then you will need to find out the peak wattage draw of your plasma cutter, as this could be multiple times the rated requirement. Once you have this number then you can correctly size a suitable generator. Thanks

  • Q:What is the best generator to operate TV, VCR, & charging Mobile phones. Would it be a inverter generator?

Hi there, great question.  Yes;  if you intend to only run sensitive electronic appliances (e.g. TV's, mobile phones etc.) then best practice is to use an inverter generator. These sensitive electronic appliances have microprocessors in them which are best run using pure sine wave power, which is what inverter generators produce.

However, an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) generator reduces voltage fluctuation to minimise power surges which could damage, you can also use an AVR generator to run electronic appliances like the ones mentioned above also - However, note that typically other non-sensitive appliances (e.g. lights, fridges, freezers, fans etc.) are run at the same time as the appliances with microprocessors. With these other appliances running at the same time, it balances the generator's load demand.

In summary:  if all you intend to run are just sensitive electronics, then opt for an inverter generator. But if you want to run non-sensitive appliances at the same time as sensitive electronic equipment, then an AVR generator is more than suitable. Thanks.
