Ask a Question

  • Q:What is the best generator to operate TV, VCR, & charging Mobile phones. Would it be a inverter generator?
    A:

Hi there, great question.  Yes;  if you intend to only run sensitive electronic appliances (e.g. TV's, mobile phones etc.) then best practice is to use an inverter generator. These sensitive electronic appliances have microprocessors in them which are best run using pure sine wave power, which is what inverter generators produce.

However, an AVR (automatic voltage regulator) generator reduces voltage fluctuation to minimise power surges which could damage appliances...so, you can also use an AVR generator to run electronic appliances like the ones mentioned above also - However, note that typically other non-sensitive appliances (e.g. lights, fridges, freezers, fans etc.) are run at the same time as the appliances with microprocessors. With these other appliances running at the same time, it balances the generator's load demand.

In summary:  if all you intend to run are just sensitive electronics, then opt for an inverter generator. But if you want to run non-sensitive appliances at the same time as sensitive electronic equipment, then an AVR generator is more than suitable. Thanks.
