Enerdrive Product Manual

Enerdrive Pro Series Lithium Batteries:

Lithium Ion batteries have a high energy density and are perfect for cyclic applications. They offer savings of up to 70% in volume and weight compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. Lithium Ion batteries offer ultra-fast charging and discharging, high efficiency and three times as many charging cycles (>1500 full cycles) compared to traditional lead acid batteries.

Enerdrive’s Pro Series Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) is the safest of the mainstream li-ion battery types. The nominal voltage of each cell is 3,2V. A 12,8V Enerdrive battery therefore consists of 4 cells connected in series.

All lithium Ion batteries require a battery management system (BMS). There is no way around this. There are numerous examples of catastrophic failures where no BMS has been used.

The Enerdrive Pro Series Lithium battery packs incorporate Active Cell Balancing across the range. The balancing method used is Dynamic Energy Transfer. This allows for automatic balancing of the cells during charging, discharging and storage. Any cells with high voltage density will transfer energy to the lower cells in the pack. This method of cell balancing utilises the energy within the battery pack to balance the cells unlike passive balancing systems which bleed this excess energy off as heat to keep the battery balanced at the top end of the charging cycle, wasting energy already stored within the battery.

The Enerdrive Active Balancing System also incorporates individual cell “Hi -Voltage & Low-Voltage” disconnect feature to interface with the Enerdrive Advanced BMS Driver, switching (off/on) of charging sources & consumer loads. Running Active Cell Balancing allows Enerdrive to parallel and series connect multiple batteries within the system. This offers 12v, 24v, 36v &,48v systems with up to the possibility of 1500Ah+ capacity.

The installation kit incorporates the Enerdrive Advanced BMS Rely Driver, ePRO or Simarine monitor, Main DC Fuse and a load disconnect latching relay. This kit is connected to the battery and designed to work hand in hand with the batteries Active Balancing System for controlling charging and discharging sources for ultimate protection of your investment.

Many companies will just sell you the battery and if lucky, you will get a BMS incorporated. They neglect to tell you that disconnecting loads and charging sources at the critical times requires more equipment to be installed to manage these operations.

Enerdrive ePRO Inverter / Charger 3000W:

The main task of the ePRO Combi Inverter Charger is to act as an uninterruptible AC power supply (UPS). In case of a grid/generator failure or disconnection, the ePRO Combi immediately stops charging the battery, releases the AC transfer switch and activates the inverter which takes over the supply to the connected loads. All this is achieved so fast, that even very critical loads like computers will continue to operate without any problems. In case the grid/generator is reconnected again and the voltage and frequency are within acceptable limits, the ePRO Combi activates the AC transfer switch and battery charger again, while deactivating the inverter. The connected loads are now supplied again by the grid/generator without any interruption.

Available in 12v, 24v or 48v models and ranging in sizes from 1600-3500w inverter output and 35-120A charger output, the ePRO Combi has a unit to suit nearly any application. Complete with 5 Year warranty.

Additionally, the ePRO Inverter Charger offers features like :

  • AC Input Power Boost, which temporarily assists weak AC input sources when the connected load needs more power than available from the grid or generator.
  • AC Input Current Limit, which limits the maximum current consumed from the AC input source by the ePRO Combi. This limit is user adjustable.
  • Power Factor Corrected AC Input, which optimizes energy efficiency and makes sure that the maximum amount of charging current is available from your AC source.
  • Intelligent 4-stage charge programs, user programmable to fit any battery type.
  • Fully programmable inverter, transfer switch and battery charger parameters, using the Dashboard for Windows software.
  • Programmable alarm relay, for optimal control of external devices like generator starting or selective load disconnection.
  • Freely assignable trigger input, which allows the user to control the ePRO Combi by external events.
  • Temperature controlled fans, to guarantee silent operation under less than full load conditions.
  • Temperature compensated battery charging, using the standard supplied battery temperature sensor for maximum battery lifetimes.

When installation space is at a premium, but maximum performance is required then look no further than the ePRO Combi range. With so many internal features the ePRO Combi will provide you with all the requirements for on-board power along with:

  • AC Input Power Boost – The ePRO Combi is capable of temporarily assisting weak AC input sources when more power is needed than available (i.e. from small generators). This is beneficial when larger loads than both the generator or the inverter on their own could support; so let the ePRO Combi combine both of the AC sources for maximum load support capability.
  • AC Input Current Limit – For those times when you have limited AC supply (i.e. portable generators), you can set the ePRO Combi to only charge at a maximum rate.
  • Alarm Output Relays – Providing full configuration options for the alarm contacts PLUS convert external trigger commands into a number of ePRO Combi status changes.
  • Also available on the larger 2000-3500w Combi’s are two fully configurable 16A 230v alarm relay outputs for controlling large AC loads like air conditioning. Along with two unique trigger inputs, it gives the end user virtually unparalleled control of their Enerdrive ePRO “Power Station”.

Product Faqs

Ask a Question

  • Q:What does max constant current (1c,300A) mean?

If a battery is rated at "1C", it means it can be discharged at its full amperage capacity for one hour, in this case the EPL-300AH-12V battery can provide 300A of DC current for 1 hour.

A common application would be powering a 3000w inverter at full power for one hour.

  • Q:What if the battery monitor reads 24% or less or the battery voltage has reached 12.4V or less, and the power has gone out?

The battery has reached its maximum discharge and the main battery relay has dis-engaged to protect the battery. Turn off all loads and turn on the charging sources. Once the percentage on the ePRO Plus Meter reaches 28%, you can push the yellow button on the main battery relay until it latches down to re-engage the main battery switch and monitor your loads. Keep charging sources connected until the battery reaches maximum charge 100%.

  • Q:What if I see red LED’s on the “TOR & Outputs” of the Advanced Relay Driver?

If a battery cell goes Hi Voltage and cuts the Hi Voltage loop wire then the Advanced BMS Relay Status LED will flash RED and the Driver will activate the TOR & Output contacts (turning red) and will drive the installed relay/contacts to cut out all charging sources (solar/vehicle/main charger) for 10 minutes. If the cell voltage has not come back within range before 10min, it will stay active for another 10 minutes and repeat until the cell/s are within range.

  • Q:What if the main battery switch has tripped out, but the LED’s on Inputs 1-3 on the Advanced BMS Relay Driver are Green and the battery monitor is 26% or higher in capacity?

This has happened because the system has registered 1 of 2 faults:

1: A high temperature condition has occurred above 55°C (status LED flashing Red/Blue) and shut down the main battery relay to protect the system from an extreme high temperature situation. Once the temperature reduces below 55°C the main battery relay will automatically switch itself back on.

2: The system has registered a low battery SOC ≤24% or low cell voltage ≤ 3.1V condition (Status LED flashing Green) and shut down the main battery relay to protect the battery from over discharge. If solar is connected to the system, once the SOC rises above 26% and the cell voltage increases above 3.1V then inputs 1-3 will register a Green LED. At this point, push the yellow button on the main battery relay until it latches down to re-engage the main battery switch and monitor your loads. Switch on additional charging sources until the battery reaches maximum charge 100%

  • Q:What if the Status light is flashing Blue and the temperature is above 0°C?

The Temperature Sensor has failed or become unplugged and the system has shut down the charge sources. Check to make sure the sensor is plugged in correctly. If so, remove the Temperature Sensor from the Advanced BMS Relay Driver and select Program B on the side of the Advanced BMS Relay Driver.
