User Tips:

This fridge is designed to run from a 12V DC power source such as your Caravan/Camping battery bank. Running the fridge from a 12V power source will help with the longevity and performance of this fridge. Bushman recommends that when 240V power is available, use a smart battery charger to charge your battery bank and keep your fridge running direct from the batteries. You can see a suitable range of AC to DC smart battery chargers HERE if needed.

A small number of customers may want to use this fridge in an 'offgrid living' setup and run the fridge from 240V AC power all of the time - in which case you will need a Power Adaptor to convert AC Power to DC in order to run the fridge. You can see this optional Bushman Adaptor HERE.

Note: The mounting frame does not cover the bottom 2 inches of the fridge. This enables customers to use a timber bead or kickboard.

Perfection . . . Simple! Review by Greg Norris

Having now acquired a slide on camper, I needed a fridge with a front door, not a lid, like my Scorpion esky style fridge. The Bushman DC50X looked good, but seeing as this is going to be travelling widely in Australia on solar, it also needed to be efficient and use little power. A quick read of the specs and all looked good. Check of the dimensions, yep, that'll fit nicely. Ordered, excitement levels raised, then sent through the roof, when it arrived on a small pallet! This is quality and caring. But I digress. What about the fridge? As my title states, perfection . . . Simple! I ordered the 240v adapter so, I could test it prior to installation. Plugged in and saw the fan turning, but no noise. Opened the door . . . WOOOOOOOOWWWW! A brilliant BLUE LIGHT. I use a blue light in my 4x4 cabin for lighting, as it doesn't blow out your night vision. That impressed me. But wait . . . Still no noise? Ummm Waited 5 minutes and still no noise! Worry and concern start to rise, but then I thought, hang about, Ned the door, lifted the freezer door (Oh, did I forget to mention it has a dedicated FREEZER section? And the flap has a magnet to hold it up, brilliant) but again I digress, I reached back and 'Hello', icy cold metal in the freezer, the fridge is working. But still no noise ! ! ! So basically, this is the ideal small 12 volt fridge. With the provided mounting frame installation was simple. The materials are quality. No plastic everything, but proper steel body. The plastic inside feels thick and strong. The freezer has a great lift up flap style door, which has a magnet to hold it up. The main fridge rack/shelf has a fold up section to provide space for tall items. And the light is BLUE ! ! ! As I am fitting out for extended trips, I needed a fridge that didn't suck the expensive AGM batteries to death. This draws an average of .5 Amp per hour. Look closely there is a point mark in there, it is 1/2 an Amp per hour! That makes everything else I saw, including one that claims it is revolutionary using only 6 Amps an hour! WTF? This fridge is exceptional. It is small, absolutely quiet, gets to and maintains the desired temperature quickly and easily. It has a BLUE light inside. If you are looking for a small, lightweight, quiet, efficient fridge, which you could even run in the back of a station wagon for camping, this is it.

I'm looking at the Bushman Fridges, are they manufactured in Australia?

Great question, all the Bushman fridges are manufactured overseas, however, Bushman is an Australian owned and operated business.
Does A Caravan Fridge Need 240V?
Hi John,

Thanks for your question.

Essentially no you do not always need a caravan fridge with 240V. In fact, some brands, such as Bushman, recommend a 12V fridge only. This is because of the follow reasons:
1. The fridge will last longer - caravan fridges with 240V built in have a 240 transformer attached to the compressor. This transformer generates excess heat, which in turn reduces the life of the compressor.
2. The fridge will cool down faster - by removing the 240V transformer from the compressor, the cooling system will produce less heat. This therefore makes it easier and faster for the fridge to cool down.
3. A 12V fridge costs less - a 12V and 240V fridge requires a qualified electrician to install and service the fridge. Whereas a 12V only fridge is generally cheaper to buy, install and service.
However, having a 240V fridge allows you to connect to AC mains power when available and run 12/24 Volt DC appliances. Usually a customer who intends to use their Bushman fridge in an 'off-grid' living set up will want to run the fridge from a 240V power source the whole time and therefore use an adaptor.

The better option for Caravan/Camping use is to run their 12V Fridge from their batteries. Bushman recommends that when 240V power is available, use a smart battery charger to charge your battery bank and keep your fridge running direct from the batteries. Can the freezer section be adjusted to regular fridge temperature?

The freezer cannot be adjusted sorry. It is always going to operate as a freezer.
Does this fridge have bottom and top locking mechanisms
