Yamaha EF2400iS, 2400w Inverter Generator, 4 Year Warranty. If you’re looking for a top of the line generator for your caravan or motor home, then look no further than the Yamaha EF2400iS. It’s a powerful unit, delivering a maximum output of 2400W and continuous of 2000W, making it a common choice for those wanting to run some larger appliances on the road such as air-con units, microwaves or washing machines. It is suited to run most caravan air-con units on the market, as many a/c units will peak at more than 2000 watts. In fact, the EF2400iS was the winner of the Caravan & Motorhome On Tour Magazine’s Mega Portable Generator Comparison, whereby they tested 13 portable generators across six brands.
Despite its powerful output, this unit’s sleek and lightweight design still makes it mobile to move around at your convenience. Additionally, the large engine capacity does not mean this is a noisy machine - quite the opposite: the Yamaha noise reduction technology means it only produces a mere 53 decibels! That makes it quietest in its class.
Like all units in the Yamaha inverter range, the voltage produced is pure sine-wave, making it perfect to run all your sensitive electronic appliances such as laptops, tablets, televisions and mobile phones. Also included is the sophisticated Yamaha Smart Throttle technology which controls the engine speed in line with the required output, ensuring maximum fuel efficiency - it will run for 9 hours at a quarter load.
Yet another feature on this model is the Twin Tech capability to give you more power if required: you can simply hook up two EF2400iS generators together and they will produce almost double the maximum power output and provide 3800 watts of continuous power. To complete the perfect package, the unit is equipped with spark arrestor and a low oil shut-off system as important safety features.
Yamaha is one of the world leaders for engines and power equipment, and for your peace of mind their generators come with a 4 year warranty and are backed by a national service network of over 200 accredited service agents. I have an Air Command Freshjet 7 Series Pro in my caravan. Will a Yamaha 2400 start it?
Hi Ken - The short answer is yes; the Yamaha EF2400iS is the most popular generator model for running Caravan A/C units. Ideally you would know the starting and running wattage for your particular air conditioner model to be sure you are choosing the most appropriate sized generator. We find the best way to get this wattage information is to contact the manufacturer (Air Command). Their service dept. is very helpful and for most of their range of air conditioners they will advise around a 2.4kVA to 2.8kVA generator, with the main caveat being that external factors such as high temperatures (above 30°C) and long extension leads (over 3-4 metres) can de-rate any generator's power capacity. Also keep in mind that if you want to run other appliances at the same time (or simultaneously charge your battery system) then this extra power needs to be taken into consideration when sizing your generator also.
In summary, the Yamaha EF2400iS will run your Freshjet 7 Series Pro, but if you need a bit more power to account for hotter temperatures or additional appliances then the Yamaha EF2800i could also be considered. For extra piece of mind and to discuss your particular model/situation you can contact your air con manufacturer (Air Command) or feel free to give us a call on 1300 400 122 to discuss more. Thanks!

Hello, looking for a reliable generator with invertor...its for camping, needs to be quiet. Would be good if you can recommend?Hi Graeme, we'd recommend a Yamaha Inverter Generator if you are looking for a reliable, good quality inverter generator, 4 year warranty and with nationwide service agent support. Yamaha are the lightest and quietest inverter generators in the market and extremely popular for camping/camper trailers/caravans.The size of the generator would depend on the type/qty of appliances you intend to run off it. You'll need to know how much power your appliances draw to make sure you get the right size, but as a guide the following will help you:Yamaha 1000w Generator: ultra light, very popular for charging camping battery packs via a battery charger and for running a few small appliances; laptop, phone, TV, lights, small fridge etc.Yamaha 2000w Generator: extremely fuel efficient, also great for charging battery packs and running a few more appliances or items with greater draw such as fridges or smaller air-conditioners.Yamaha 2200w Generator: the latest and greatest from Yamaha. Hi there, I'm considering a Yamaha, but have noticed several other 'generic' generator brands for around a third of the price and offer similar specs. What's driving the price difference?
Great question Craig, thank you! Some lesser known brands have their place, really only for people who will use their generator infrequently - in which case you can save some money. Then there are also many cheap brands out there that are a good chance to break down on your first starting attempt!
With Yamaha, firstly - their specs are superior; not only are they the quietest and lightest inverter generators in the market, they are also built to handle more intensive, frequent operation. So with a Yamaha, you know it is going to handle your power demands easily and you can use your unit for multiple applications if required; recreation, home power backup, small business, events etc. It is the premium inverter generator brand in the market.
Secondly, with a Yamaha you get a 4-year warranty (which is much longer than the cheap brands) and you get the support of over 200 accredited service agents around the country. Our experience is that the Yamaha after sales support, servicing and parts support is excellent. You don't get a national service network with the cheap brands.
Hope that help explains the price difference, cheers, Steve!

Will this generator run my caravan air conditioner?
Hi there - we get this question quite a bit. The Yamaha EF2400iS is the most popular generator for caravans, especially because it will run most caravan and motorhome A/C units. We've tested this generator against the most popular A/C models from the likes of Air Command, Dometic, Coleman etc. and it is a strong performing generator.
However, we always advise that because each A/C unit is different you should find out the wattage requirements for your particular unit to ensure you choose the best suited generator. Often the best way to do this is to contact the A/C manufacturer and speak to their technical department. It is important to note that many units will have both a start-up power requirement in addition to the continuous running power requirement (the start-up power can be 4-5 times the running power).
If you intend to run other appliances at the same time, then you will need to also find out all the running power watts for your other appliances (e.g. fridge, computer) that you want to run at the same time as the A/C unit and then add that total to the A/C start up power wattage amount. Again, this number will determine what size generator you need. For more help, check out the buyer’s guide page which provides a step by step simple example: https://www.mygenerator.com.au/generators-buyers-guide/
Overall, we confidently recommend the Yamaha EF2400iS for Caravan A/C use. But just be sure to do your sums on the starting wattage draw of your A/C model, and do the same on any other appliances you intend to run also. Each person's Caravan set up varies from one to the next.
It's also worth noting that this generator recently topped the Caravan & Motorhome on Tour Magazine massive generator comparison test, you can see the results here.

My product manual for my inverter generator mentions an 'earthing wire / earthing stake' - do I need this?
Hi there, good question. This is mentioned in generator manuals and is a safety feature that will earth the generator. You do have the option to fit an 'earth wire'. Connecting an earth wire and stake is an option available to customer's that purchase a generator.
An earth wire and stake are not supplied with generators that we sell and is application specific. In practice, we do not see customer's do this, especially for inverter generators. It can be something that is implemented for more specialized generators on mining work sites for example...for common applications, it is not common practice to 'earth' the generator with a wire and stake. If you are in doubt, and you have a specialized generator requirement that may need 'earthing', please consult an electrician. Hope that helps.

Hi we are looking at going on the road (nomads) and would like to have a idea on what size generator to run a Caravan A/C and a 185l fridge/freezer? regards Bryan
Hi there, great question. The item that will draw the most power will be your Caravan A/C unit - it would be a good idea for you to contact the manufacturer of your A/C unit, speak to their technical dept. and find out what size generator they recommend for your particular model. We find that the quality Caravan A/C brands such as Dometic, Air Command, Coleman, Denso etc. are very helpful.
In our experience, most Caravan A/C units will require a starting wattage of around 2000 to 3000 watts. So, the most popular generator models to run your Caravan A/C unit are the Yamaha EF2400iS and the Yamaha EF2800I.
Some smaller and newer/more efficient Caravan A/C models can run on the Yamaha EF2000iS. Again, once you have spoken to your A/C manufacturer, you will be best placed to make the call, however we find that most caravan owners will opt for a 2400watt or 2800watt inverter generator model for two reasons: 1) it gives them some extra power capacity for other small appliances if required, and 2) in hotter environments, any generator's capacity is slightly de-rated, so having a generator with slightly more capability than you need can be very useful as the ambient temp gets well into the 30 degrees and above temperatures.
As for your 185L caravan fridge-freezer, this will not draw much power. Most quality upright caravan fridges will only draw around 100 watts (give or take). Thank you.

Is there a way to shut off the petrol supply so I can run the carburetor dry?
Yes, all the Yamaha generators have a fuel valve shutoff (petcock) allowing you to switch off the fuel whilst the generator is operating so the remaining fuel in the carburetor runs dry.
This feature is especially popular if you intend to store your generator in a car, as the petrol fumes ill not permeate through the vehicle thanks to the shutoff valve.

What size generator would handle my Caravan air con? The unit has a nominal cooling capacity of 3.0 kW and run at a frequency of 50 Hz at at all times.
Hi - sizing the right generator for caravan air-conditioning units is a very common question. Firstly, you need to find out the starting (peak) watts of your particular unit; we suggest the best way to do this is to contact the manufacturer of your air-con unit and their technical department will be able to inform you what the exact starting wattage of your model is. For many common air-con manufacturers such as Ibis Air Command, Dometic, Coleman, Mitsubishi etc. the technical departments have tested their range of units against leading portable generator models and can advise what size generator will best do the job.
For the vast majority of popular caravan air-conditioning units, the advised generator size is 2.4kVA to 2.8kVA. The most popular generator model is the Yamaha EF2400iS - it is a great performer for caravan use (including running caravan air-con units) and was rated by Caravan & Motorhome on Tour as the best Caravan Generator. For people that want more power, the Yamaha EF2800i or the Yamaha EF3000iSE are good options.
Just remember that each caravan air-con model is different with slightly different power draw requirements, so doing your research is good practice. Other things to consider is the power draw of any other appliances you also intend to run, along with noting that external factors such as high temperatures (above 30°C) and running long extension leads will slightly de-rate any generator's power capacity. Overall we recommend you size the right generator for your air-con and appliances (by following the steps outlined above), ensuring you also have a bit of power capacity up your sleeve if required. Thanks

Hi, just wondering whether the EF2400is and EF2800i are made in Japan or China? Also, I have a EF2000is bought from you and am wondering if it could be connected with either of the above? Cheers
Hi Andrew, the Yamaha EF2400iS and EF2800i models are made in Japan.
In terms of parallel connection, this is possible for the EF2000iS and the EF2400iS - only these two models in the Yamaha Inverter Generator range have the parallel connection capability. Note that you need to connect two of the same models for it to work...so with your existing Yamaha EF2000iS, you would need to connect it (via the Yamaha Parallel Twin Tech Cables) to another EF2000iS, and this would almost double the power output. You can't connect an EF2000iS with an EF2400iS.
Many thanks.

Good morning, Karen here from Semaphore Caravan Pk Adelaide SA. We are getting ready for our trip around Australia. We would like to know what size Yamaha Generator would best suit us? We have solar panel set up, duel battery among other things.
Hi Karen, to be sure you get the right generator for your Caravan trip, its best to know in a bit more detail exactly what you intend to be running. If you just want the generator as backup option to charge your batteries and a few other small appliances then the most popular generator models are the Yamaha EF1000iS and the Yamaha EF2000iS.
However, if you also want a generator to run appliances with a larger draw such as a Caravan air-conditioner, a microwave, a washing machine, a standard kettle etc. etc. then you may need a larger generator such as the Yamaha EF2200iS, the Yamaha EF2400iS, the Yamaha EF2800i or the Yamaha EF3000iSE. In this instance you would need to know the exact starting and running wattages of these larger appliances to ensure you get the right sized generator for the particular make/model of appliances you have. The starting wattage of these appliances is the most important number to obtain. You can do this by checking the product manual or contacting the manufacturer of the appliance (we find this is the safest/most effective approach).
I hope that helps - if you still need help, please feel free to give us a call on 1300 400 122! Thanks.
-
If I buy this generator how will I connect it to my caravan? Does it have a 15 amp outlet to match caravan power lead?
Hi Paul, the Yamaha EF2400iS Inverter Generator comes with 2 x 15amp outlets for you to plug in your caravan power lead. Many thanks.
-
What generator size and types can run a caravan airconditioner? I also have the fridge, TV, radio etc.
Hi there - thanks for your question. For your air conditioner, it is probably best that you contact the manufacturer or find on the A/C unit the particular wattage power required at both start up and for continuous running (often the start-up power can be 4-5 times the running power). That is your first step. We find the Caravan air con manufacturers (Technical departments) to be very helpful providing the starting wattage info if you give them a call. For popular Caravan A/C brands like Air Command, Dometic, Coleman etc. we find the Yamaha EF2400iS to be the most popular model - it is a great performer for this type of application. Just remember that if you want to run other appliances at the same time (see below) or will be operating your generator in hot tempuratures (above 30°C) / running extension leads beyond 3-4 metres then all these things need to be taken in consideration when choosing your generator size - we advise the best thing to do is work out the wattage draw of your A/C and any other appliances and make sure you have some extra power up your sleeve if needed.
Just like your a finding out the wattage (starting and running watts) info for your Caravan A/C, you'll need to do the same for your other appliances (fridge, TV etc.) also. If you want to run them at the same time as the A/C and then add that wattage total of your other appliances to the A/C start up wattage amount. This overall number will determine what size generator you need. For more help, our buyers guide page takes you through this process step by step via a simple example: https://www.mygenerator.com.au/generators-buyers-guide/
Overall, do your sums on all your appliances (A/C unit and other) and make sure you choose a generator with enough power for your particular items and situation. Again, our most popular generator for caravans is the Yamaha 2400 Watt Inverter Generator with some people opting for the Yamaha EF2800i for a bit more power. Each person's caravan set up and circumstance varies.
There is also a cheaper budget option being the Lectron 3500 Watt Inverter Generator which is suitable for infrequent use only - Yamaha is premium brand with a 4 yr warranty and national service support network, Lectron is a cheaper brand with no national service network; mainly designed for 'just in case' purposes.
-
I plan to leave the generator outside my long term camp setup, what’s your best inverter generator that can handle all weather conditions, especially heavy rain?
Hi there, sounds like a nice set up! The short answer is that electricity and water don’t mix. Whilst we are aware that some people run their inverter gensets in all weather conditions, it is not recommended as safe or best practice for your equipment, as inverter generators do not come with weatherproof outlets as standard.
Ideally, you would somehow shelter your generator from the rain. But just remember that fully enclosing your generator whilst its running is not an option - generators need fresh air intake for the engine to run and they emit carbon dioxide, so they should never be contained. Overall, some rain protection but also room for fresh air intake and fume emission is what you need.
-
Hi, this is a battery charging question. Provided I am using an AC outlet with a quality battery charger, do I need to disconnect my main car Battery before charging it with an inverter generator like the Yamaha 2400?
Hi there, Thanks for the question. You do not need to disconnect your main car battery in order to recharge. The Yamaha 2400 will be more than adequate to perform this operation. Good work on choosing a quality charger, just be sure to “always” read the battery charger’s instruction manual prior to use.
-
How frequently do I have to change the motor oil? Product info says to change it after the first 20hrs, and after this first change?
Hi, after the first oil change, the recommended oil change time frame is every 6 months or 100 hours of use. When in doubt always consult our user manual for recommended maintenance. Thanks!

Will this generator run the pump for my house water system?
Hi, that is a tough question to answer without knowing more details about your pump. Water pumps come in a range of sizes and some smaller pumps can run on a small 2000 watt generator, whereas some house pumps would need around 6000 – 8000 watts or more!...electric pumps are notorious for having quite high starting loads. So, you would need to find out the peak load (in Watts) required to start your pump. If you cannot find the starting load from the product manual or data plate, you could contact the manufacturer of your pump, or engage an electrician to take a reading.
Once you have that all important stating load amount for your pump, you can then choose the right sized generator to run your pump.
-
I am looking at the Yamaha 2kw to power a 1.6kw Window Air conditioner on a boat. Will the Yamaha run it?
If 1.6kw is the load required at peak to start the A/C, then this Yamaha generator will be fine to run it. Just be sure to check that this is in fact the peak load - you can sometimes find this information on the A/C data plate or within the product manual, but often you'll need to contact the A/C manufacturer, speak to their technical dept. and they can tell you how much power at start up your particular A/C model will require.
The Yamaha EF2000iS inverter generator is suitable for some smaller sized A/C units in boats, caravans and motorhomes. But for many caravan/boating A/C units, the peak wattage requirement is more than 2000 watts - therefore the Yamaha EF2200IS or EF2400IS inverter generator model is the most popular for Air Conditioners: the boost feature of the EF2200iS and the larger engine and greater output in the Yamaha 2400 generator, respectively suits most caravan A/C units on the market.
-
Will the Yamaha EF2400iS run my Caravan Air Conditioner?
The Yamaha EF2400iS is by far and away the most popular generator to run caravan air-conditioners. It will start and run most caravan air-conditioners on the market, and it was awarded the number 1 caravan generator by Caravan & Motorhome on Tour Magazine in their mega caravan generator test.
Typically, most caravan A/C units will require a surge power amount of between 2000 – 3000 watts, and the Yamaha EF2400iS can handle that surge requirement. However, there are some larger makes and models of Caravan A/C’s that may require more power and so it always pays to contact your A/C manufacturer, speak to their technical department and ask them what generator size is recommended.
The majority of our customers wanting to run their caravan A/C from a generator will opt for a generator around the 2400 watt size (like the Yamaha EF2400iS). The small balance of customers may need a bigger generator (again, we encourage you to check with your caravan A/C manufacturer about your particular make & model) like a 2800 / 3000watt model, or can get away with using a smaller 2000watt sized model – although in this latter case, it may still to pay to opt for a larger generator (like the Yamaha EF2400iS) as it can be beneficial to have extra power up your sleeve; external factors such as hotter outside temperatures and extension cords will slightly de-rate any generator’s capacity.
-
Will this generator run any Caravan Air Con unit?
We always advise that you find out what the peak power surge at start-up (in watts) that your particular Caravan Air-Con model will require. This enables you to correctly size what generator you need. Often the best way to do this is to contact the Air-Con manufacturer, speak to their technical department and ask what size generator they advise will run your model of Air-Con, based on its peak power surge.
In terms of the Yamaha EF2400iS, from our testing and experience, it will run mostly all Caravan Air-Con models from the major brands on the market, noting that there are a couple of specific Caravan Air-Con models at the very large end that will test it, or even be too much for generators of this size especially in hotter conditions. Note that some older Air-Con models are not very efficient and can draw quite a bit of power.
In summary, most people requiring a generator to run their Caravan Air-Con will opt for a Yamaha EF2400iS - it is a quiet, reliable and fuel efficient machine that will comfortably run the vast majority of Caravan Air-Con units on the market. It is THE generator we recommend to run Caravan Air-Con units. The main reasons that people might opt for a different model of generator for their Caravan is:
1) They have an especially large Caravan Air-Con unit that needs more power so they need a larger generator (or in some less common cases the opposite is true, whereby they have a particularly small Air-Con unit and can get away with a 2000w generator). Again, these types of cases are not as common, but its always best to find the peak power surge draw of your specific Air-Con model.
2) Many people will just want to run their Caravan Air-Con from the generator and that’s it. However, some people will have a number of other Caravan appliances they want to run at the same time as their Air-Con, e.g. battery system charging, kitchen appliances, electronics etc. This is where you'll need to know the power draw of those other appliances also. The Yamaha EF2400iS might be ok to run your Air-Con plus some other appliances at the same time, or it might not - it obviously depends on how much power the sum of all your particular pieces of equipment will draw.
Lastly, its worth noting that in hotter environments, any generator's capacity will slightly reduce. Also, the longer the extension leads, the more the generator's capacity will slightly reduce too. Just be weary of these additional influences on the power performance of a generator - so if you are going to be in particularly hot environments (above 30 degrees Celsius), or run long extension leads (longer than 4 metres) then factor in some additional power contingency when doing your generator sizing calculations.

Hi, how much does this weigh please?
Hi - This generator weights 32 kilograms. You can see the full product specs under the 'Specifications' tab on this product page. Thanks!
-
Please clarify if the DC charger facility can be used at the same time as the 240AC is being used? The manual is a little confusing regarding this.
Hi - yes, simultaneous use of the AC and DC power is possible, but wattage should not exceed the rated output.
It should also be noted that the DC charge from the generator is not regulated and is mostly designed for 'just in case' situations, i.e. your flat car battery needs a short trickle charge. For full charging of your batteries, you should always use a quality battery charger which connects between the AC output on the generator and your batteries - this will ensure safe and efficient charging of your batteries.
Thanks.
-
G'Day, is there a way to shut off the petrol supply so I can run the carborator dry? Have had issues with this in the past on different gensets.
Hi and thanks for your question - the Yamaha range has a fuel shut off switch which is independent to the on/off knob. This means that you can turn off the fuel line when the unit is still in operation, enabling you to use up the remaining fuel from the carburettor. Very helpful if you intend to store the generator away for a while before using again.
-
Do you think a generator cover is necessary to maintain the unit in the best condition? Most of the time we would have the generator stored within our caravan.
Hi Cam - the generator cover is best for those who will be storing the unit in a garage or shed as to protect it from dust. You cant use it when the unit is operating and the covers are not weatherproof. Given your generator will be in a small caravan storage enclosure, I would say a cover is not absolutely essential for you, particularly if your storage compartment is clean and protected.
Another quick tip for generator protection is: If you have the generator placed on the ground, always sit it on a board when running. This prevents the dirt and dust being sucked into the machine from the ground. Hope that helps - thanks!

How much fuel does it need to run? And how many beers do I get with my generator? cheers mate.
Hi mate, thanks for your question. Regarding fuel: the Yamaha EF2400iS has a six litre fuel tank and runs on regular unleaded fuel. This will give you a run time of nine hours at a quarter load. This unit recently topped the Caravan & Motorhome on Tour Magazine massive generator comparison test, including the most fuel efficient measure - you can see the results here.
In terms of the free beer: from time to time (depending on stock levels) we run a sales campaign in which we give away a free carton of beer when you purchase a selected product on our site. We also run other bonuses at different times including free generator covers, free shipping, reduced pricing, or other giveaways. Typically these specials are for a very limited time only, so if you like the deal; grab it why you can!

A mate recommended this generator to me - I've got 2 freezers that I need to keep running during blackouts. They are the same identical model and manual says they draw 1080 watts maximum. Will this Yamaha do the job for both? Ta.
Hi Michael - yes, based on those wattages you have described, the Yamaha EF2400iS will run both of your freezers. Cheers.

Do you guys have some general tips for generator maintenance? Ta
Hi there - good question, yes, we do! Firstly, as a safety note, always stop the engine and let the generator cool down before starting any maintenance work. The five main general tips are;
1. Replace engine oil
2. Check spark plug, replace if necessary
3. Check fuel level and ensure it is fresh fuel (fuel left for a long time can go "off")
4. Check air filter, replace if necessary
5. Clean muffler cover and check spark arrestorYou can also check out this helpful video on generator maintenance tips.
For further maintenance help, you should take your generator to a small engine specialist or an accredited generator service technician.

What is the power factor please?
Hi there - The power factor for this inverter generator is 1. Max output is 2400w or 2.4kva. Rated or continuous output is 2000w.

I am told by my electrician that to wire this into my home - the generator must not have a "centre tap" - Can you advise if this has or hasn't?
Hi, these portable generators don’t have a centre tap.
Many thanks.

Can two of these be connected together? I need 3500 watts to start my A/C unit.
Howdy Sam, yes you can - the Yamaha EF2400iS is Twin Tech compatible, meaning with the parallel cables you can connect two of these generators to almost double the peak output and provide 3800 watts continuous. You can purchase these cables listed as ‘Parallel Kit’ under the Accessories List on the product page. Cheers!

I am buying a Yamaha Inverter Generator from you. If I plan to not run it for a period of 4-5 months, so should I just use a fuel stabilizer?
Yes, a good fuel stabiliser will keep your fuel fresh during periods when you are not using your generator and in your case this should be fine.
Other good practice recommendations are:
- Drain the excess fuel in the carburettor after use. All Yamaha generators have a fuel shut off valve (petcock) that you can switch off while the generator is running to use the residual fuel and ensure it does not sit in the carburettor
- Start up your generator every few months for a short period to lubricate internal parts of the unit and even apply a small load to the generator ensure everything is in working order for when you need it next.
